Whistler,
Blimey, I have to fill in a form?! Better have a go at it now, then:-
1. What is your aim in joining Freemasonry?
To continue down a path started some 3 years ago when I was initiated into Wicca. As I’ve been discussing off-forum with a member of another forum, the one thing that truly hit the spot for me in Wicca was the psychological aspect, the self-knowledge, the self-improvement. However, it is only a relatively small aspect of the whole Wiccan ‘package’, so I stripped it down to its basics, found what worked for me and followed it back to its origin: Masonry. I’m picking up the thread on something that changed my life 3 years ago. I’ve had 3 years to let the spiritual havoc stirred back then settle down, and now I’m ready and eager to take it further. There’s plenty left in me that’s up for improvement, and I know, just by the responses of those I live and work with, that a tiny improvement within oneself can make a world of difference to others. Just to see that radiant smile on a loved one’s face when you approach them or their question in a much calmer, much more balanced, much more loving way is worth the effort.
2. What do you regard as your principal duties towards:-
(a) Humanity ? – to be a Beacon of Hope, Light and Understanding. I know that sounds ridiculously self-important, but that’s not the way I mean it to sound. I’ve seen it happening to people around me – the power of positive thinking coupled with reason is truly awesome. Just that ability to shed some Light on a different aspect of a person’s trouble may give them a different, Lighter angle of looking upon it, and may help them come to terms with it.
(b) Your Country ? – Tricky one. I don’t live in my Country anymore, and truly consider England to be my Home, my Country. I know and practice the laws of this Country, and that is the first thing that came to mind when reading this question. I will live by and uphold the laws of this Country at all times, and will seek to inspire others to do the same. Law and morality are very closely related, and appear to be failing left, right and centre in England anno 2005 – I will fight tooth and nail to preserve and re-invigorate it.
(c) Yourself ? – to be all that I can be, and give all that I can give straight back to the world that’s helped me grow to what I am today. Always to strive for the maximum attainable, never to settle for anything less than I know I can be and achieve.
3 TESTAMENT:- State the nature of the influence you desire to bequeath to your Brethren.
That’s a tough one, considering I haven’t even set foot in a Lodge yet! I’m going to have to take this one in terms of 2(a) above – to be a Beacon of Hope, Light and Understanding. And, knowing myself, to be a right proper pest in asking “Why?” a lot and challenging everything; making people think. Don’t just follow – find your own Course.
