I have placed the following from Black Adder's Post. I want to Stress to BlackAdder that I do not criticize him in any way - That is how his Freemasonry works - I have just found so much difference between the way his Lodge and my Co-masonic Lodge works I think it worth a chat here I was SS at a FC degree last night, and was outside having a sly beer and the WM came right up to me and put his arm around me and asked me to sit in the East for the EA Degree in about 6 weeks. I am honored and shocked,I know I can do it but there is always that aspect of self doubt that keeps creeping in. ps. Ive only been a MM for 6 months. I was SS What is an SS? and was outside having a sly beer Is it a Custom to drink beer whilst Lodge is working? Why was he outside the lodge during a ceremony? in our Lodge the only the Tyler - the Regaler Steward (Who helps dress the candidate) and the candidate would be outside and of course any EA's during the time of the FC's Ceremony. WM came right up to me Why was the WM Outside the Lodge? asked me to sit in the East In a Co masonic Lodge only Past Masters and the Current Master may sit in the East. The Chair of the Master is also special. During a Practice for an installation of a New Master the Master Elect should not even put his back side on the chair - In our practice we also practise the closing of the Lodge for the benefit of the New Master - The Master elect will sit in a chair placed beside the "Masters" Chair during the practice. Our Differences are forever of interest

Yet another difference from Russell >In our Lodge each officer moves up 3 chairs for an EA degree, 2 chairs for a FC and 1 chair for a MM. In my lodge we have candidates for almost all meetings so that with that rule an officer would sit in his own chair twice in his term - the installation and perhaps one meeting without a candidate Cheers Russell In our Lodges once a year all the officers are installed in office and remain in their respective chairs for the complete year. During a ceremony reading of charges are often delegated to others but always Past Masters other then that unless an officer became infirm, Wardens and Officers perform their duties at each meeting.

An another In a photo on Logeroomuk, there is a picture of a Lodge room with the two pillars on the pavement between the SW pedestal and the centre. In our Lodge the Columns are at the door of the lodge, the only thing on the pavement is the Altar.

I'm not so sure if the key difference here is between Co-Freemasonry and men-exclusive Freemasonry, but rather a particular form of Freemasonry that has developed in the USA and differently developed in other parts of the world (and also differently developed in other jurisdictions in the USA).
I can as easily imagine that something similar can develop in a similar location, but which accepts both men and women. So it's not so much Co-FM contrasted to male-Craft, but this particular form contrasted to other forms (the gender issue appears to me irrelevant).
If I can try to see the key difference, it seems to me to be an instance of those constitutions that treat initiations as 'plays' (or observed ritual dramas), in which each ritual is acted for the benefit of what is effectively an audience, which is subsequently awarded the grade by having 'participated' as observer.
Before we get to be too critical of this (which I can be at times), let's also keep in mind that this is in part consistent with the 'mystery' plays from ancient Greece, whereby to witness such a play is to participate. In such cases, the acquired 'acting' abilities of the cast may also be deemed of greater importance than the implied bestowed privilege from being installed into a chair or appointed to an office. This last is what to many of us seems somewhat sacrosanct: the office and the proper bestowing of initiation ritual, in contradistinction to the 'act' of the scenes in the ritual.

Whistler
I was attempting to point out that if that rule of moving chairs applied in my lodge then the officers would have almost zero experience of their chair in that year
But my lodge is like yours, an officer performs their role at every meeting unless some special circumstance occur
Cheers

I would be extremely hesitant to discuss blanket differences between Co-Masonic ritual and that of Malecraft Masonry. I am making a study of various rituals and, based on those studies so far, I can tell you there are differences between the rituals worked **within** Malecraft Masonry. There also are, by my count, six different rituals practiced worldwide in Co-masonic jurisictions.
That in mind, which rituals are we going to use for this comparison?

Imakegarb, I commend you for your caution - The differences I mention are procedural - The finer points of ritual difference I leave to those who choose to read the various books HGW
