Ever notice that this subject comes up, sooner or later, on every masonic discussion board? Yeah, its a sensitive topic... perhaps we should include sexuality along with politics and religion as things not to be spoken about? It keeps certain people at a perpetual distance.

Remember that homosexuals do not generally lack acquaintances of the same sex, therefore the 'male bonding' that friends in malecraft lodges tells me exists isn't something a gay man would be looking for. Presumably the same applies to lesbians and femalecraft lodges.
Having said that, as a co-mason, I know a few openly other gay co-masons (well five actually, all male and not including myself) though rather more gay malecraft brothers and presumably there are lesbian femalecraft sisters. A few times, I've been asked (out of lodge) if Brother X or Sister Y bats for the other side and generally don't know and wouldn't necessarily gossip even if I did. Gay people don't have signs and tokens to identify ourselves to each other. ;D
Nobody I know who is both a homosexual and a mason has ever said that their sexuality was an issue when joining or progressing through the grades and offices. We have our tools and landmarks and these are our guide rather than being led by the superstitions of the profane world. If an Irsraeli and an Arab or a conservative and a socialist can sit together in a lodge as brothers, we are surely above such matters as what goes on behind the bedroom door.

It certainly does come up on most Masonic Fora. Now as a matter of interest it is said that the Father of the present Duke of Kent- that is the late Prince George Duke of Kent-who was also Grand Master of UGLE, was bi-sexual and although married to Princess Marina, had sexual relationships with other men. Noel Coward is supposed to have written the song "Mad about the boy" with him in mind.
An interesting point to make to any Homophobic Mason who says "We'd never allow one of them in my Lodge!"

It's one of those perennial questions, like the one about whether female co-masons have to expose their decolletage during the initiation. If there's an internet forum and a few masons, the question will sooner or later pop up. The reality is much less interesting.

Couldn't agree more, Bro:. Cezarek! By the way -- when are you next in these parts? I have a vague recollection of you mentioning you'd be around sometime in 2008 ..?

By the way -- when are you next in these parts? I have a vague recollection of you mentioning you'd be around sometime in 2008 ..? Hopefully just before the summer - I might catch a June meeting. Plato Lodge is the nearest to my home, but every time I'm back, I seem to miss a meeting by a few days!
