I am delighted to report that today our Phoenix was born and we Initiated three Candidates. Bro Cora is our WJW and gave a first class rendition of the First Degree Working Tools, the best I have seen in 19 years of being "On the Square"! As to myself I am now the WSW of Phoenix.
Bros Patrick (Leo) and Michelle were present and Leo was on the Floor as a Sword Bearer and performed that Office very well indeed.

Thanks Bro:., I thought you did a pretty darn good job yourself -- for a couple of newbies (well, to the LDH way of doing things, for you), we weren't half bad.
The Phoenix has risen; long may it soar! ;D

Yes indeed! Off to a flying start. I also have to say that the Junior Deacon, a Visiting Brother, was first class at her work having to direct two other Deacons and three Initiates. All went smoothly and our Main Temple is not huge as for example is that at the UGLE Centre in Brighton or some of the larger Temples at Great Queen Street etc.

Oh, this is exciting news. The Phoenix is born, risen and already has full nest. Congratulations to all involved but especially to Bro. Cora, who I think cannot help but shine so bright in the South, and to the three newly initiated Brothers.
One question: there were *three* deacons?

Cora, who I think cannot help but shine so bright in the South, and to the three newly initiated Brothers. One question: there were *three* deacons? Oh my. It does get warm in the spotlight;-) Thank you Bro:., but it was, always has been, and always will be a team effort. We three could not have started what we did without the sure guidance of some very senior officers in our Federation, nor without the many Brn:. who very kindly assisted us, yesterday, and during our Open Day, on 1 Sep. Yes, 3 deacons: one for each candidate. Your ritual probably carries the same instruction as ours: if there is more than one candidate, the SD guides the 2nd, and an assistant deacon any further candidates...? The Deacons were absolutely awesome. It was a most peculiar experience to be sat in the South witnessing the JD go through her routine and taking many, many mental notes for when it is my turn to do so, hopefully in Spring this year, in my motherlodge:-) Nowhere near as peculiar as being saluted by Brn:. far, FAR my senior, though! I'll tell you one thing: when you first take that Chair 'for real', there's a very odd sense of authority that immediately comes over you. It is there, long before you take that place, and it is most definitely not you, who has that authority -- you temporarily represent it. Having served as Thurifer on many occasions, it was remarkable to experience the energy / power from the other side, so as to speak. h.g.w., Cora

This may be one of those judgement call things on the part of the lodge. I've seen a triple initiation and I was part of a trio initiated. In mine, the DC stepped in to assist (and, as I recall, also had to do his bits as well, so he was quite busy). I've also seen just the two deacons handle all three. In both cases. *only* the JD assisted s*ps toward the a*ar (in both cases, all three candidates took the s*ps at the same time but not all three - (little blush) - arrived at once). I suppose an assistant deacon could also be designated to assist but I've never seen this.

We just got back from a most delightful visit to an incredibly wonderful place (Hexagon House) where we witnessed the launch of Phoenix. We also got to see a triple initiation, in fact, it was our first time witnessing any sort of initiation of any kind!
It was simply amazing and it helped put many things into perspective.
Our thanks to bro. Cora and Bro Steve and all the other Brn for making our visit such a momentous occasion. We met Brn. there we will never forget, really extraordinary brothers who's knowledge of the Craft is second to none.
Can't wait for our next visit!
I will write more on this later.

No -- everything we did, incl. the minor alterations required for working under the Certificate of a Triangle, was guided by the Preceptors.

Fraternal congrats to Phoenix Triangle!
Good to read of such growth, especially since we are working to establish a Triangle in my area soon.

Ah yes, you certainly got to meet the leading lights of the Federation! So true. One of the things that really impressed this newly initiated Co-Freemason was the approachability of these people: they are just simply the most down to earth you could possibly meet and in no-way full of any self-importance.

When we have 3 (or more), then we have 2 Deacons and a "conductor" for each of the "additional" candidates.
Interestingly, we also term the "main" deacon (i.e. the Deacon with Report) as being "Brother Conductor".
The SD leads our 1st and 3rd, and the JD the 2nd.
Edited to say - congratulations on your new Lodge. I'm sure it will bring you all many years of happiness.

Ah yes, you certainly got to meet the leading lights of the Federation! Then you have learnt an important lesson, Bro:. Patrick -- and right glad am I to hear it. You have met 3 of our Grand Inspectors General -- ponder on the correspondence between the colour of their sashes/collarettes and your EA's badge, and do share your thoughts with us -- maybe in a separate thread? With frat. love, and h.g.w., Cora

Just a quick word to say thanks to you all for your well-wishes.
I'm still somewhat caught in the excitement of this weekend, but already it is apparent that the real work starts now. Our next meeting is 2nd Feb, and it is going to be another busy one -- best go scout for Brn:. to help us officer the meeting!
