Hi Aaron.
Not really the right man to answer this but from what I've read and heard the answer is there is no connection.
Others may know different.

but Skull and bione feature prominently in the third degree. This may just be where the confusion lies. Interesting.

Light is but Darkness Visible

Taylorsman
Indeed, and more so, without darkness you can't have light, and without light you can't have darkness, for they are both part of the same. Achieving balance is the key.
[Sorry for the digression from the thread topic, but I wanted to follow on from Taylorsmans excellent thought provoking comment]

One of the most powerful images in Freemasonry is indeed the Skull & Crossbones.
And as Steve has said Light is but darkness visible, the understanding of this simple statement seperates the open minded mason from the mundane.
The skull & crossbone are but symbols, its what you learn from the symbolism that pushes you further along the road to understanding.
Lee you wil continue your journey in APRIL and more of this symbolism will be revealed then.

We should remember that ours is a symbolic craft and ritual. Those who post here that are not freemasons, or indeed those who are new to the craft, have yet to understand the full measure of the meanings behind the Skull & Crossbones. They in fact emphasise the mortality of all sentient life, the fact that we spend relatively little time on planet earth in any one incarnation, and that we should use that time wisely before we return to that lifeless of all states - the skull & bones of the soil. I would stress that ALL issues in life can be viewed positively or in a negative fashion. We choose how to identify with objects, but if we look deep there are always mitigating factors to explain and enlighten.

Aaron,it really must be emphasised that the skull and bones society has NOTHING to do with freemasonry and i believe it is an American University fraternal society.
All the topics are a lot of conspiracy theorist stuff and on another forum i was wrist slapped for posting conspiracy stuff.

I watched the movie Skull and Bones II, it was a dark action adventure. It was about a secret society.
I don't know anything about the real society, besides George Bush is a member. For all I know, they may do positive things for the community.
We are trying to portray Freemasonry in the best possible light around the world, the last thing Masons need is more antimasonry thrown our way.
That's why all the websites and forums, to show the world that we are honourable men belonging to an honourable society.
I am looking towards the light and not in the dark corners of speculation and negativity.
The skull and crossbones in Freemasonry is just a symbol, there is nothing sinister connected to it.
But of course antimasons will run with it, so we look like a dark society with dark secrets.

It is believed that some Templars may have also become pirates, hence the emergence of the Jolly Roger!
