I'm currently trying to get through "An Ocean of Theosophy" by William Q Judge. I notice that many books available on the subject seem to have been written in the late 18th early 19th Century.
My question is this.... Are these early books such as the one I'm currently reading and the works of Mme Blavatsky still considered relevant today?
If not, can anyone recommend books which are a good source of knowledge and understanding for the beginner in this field.

Much of what has been written in the last century and the one before by whom I see as the pioneers of metaphysic movement may differ from what is written today, but to my mind is still relevant. In fact I would go further many of their ideas and revelations are now intertwined with the modern new age movent and alternative groups, with little understanding by its practisers or members of were it all came from. If for no other reason it’s good to get a grounding to allow comparison and the means to be discerning with modern work. Don't get me wrong this discernment needs to be applied to all areas of the esoteric including Theosophy, personally I take from all works what speaks to me and try to work with what I have personal experienced. As to recommending a book, I would say just start looking around its surprising what libraries stock and the amount published on this vast varying subject is enormous.

Hi Temple, if you do a research about the book list of Blavatskys "Isis Unveiled" you will find the sources of modern theosophy.
If you do a research on "Jakob Böhme" and his teachings you will find some kind of "older theosophy"
