I was reading my Masonic Dictionary today at work (yes, yes, i'm a loser for reading a masonic dictionary....i know i know...)
But, when i got to the Landmarks part, it described the landmarks in the opinion of A...then again in the opinion of B, and then C AND D....with a commentary on why the different lists exist due to opinion differences.
My question is....does UGLE+amity have a standard, written out set of Landmarks, or is it a matter of opinion again??
If yes, then is this same list used by most other constitutions??

I'm afraid that when this was discussed elsewhere the conclusion was that there was no agreed set of Landmarks, no 10 Commandments on Masonic tablets of Stone, no set of Roman Laws. Indeed I am inclined to look upon them as a bit a red herring, the illusory Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow, a Holy Grail which will never be found. In my experience the Ancient Landmarks are usually invoked by someone who wishes to maintain a practice or block a change which cannot be refuted by any reasonable argument when they will bleat, "Oh you can't do that, it's against the Ancient Landmarks" There ARE lists of Ancient Landmarks , you may well be able to find them via Google and they are in Bernard E Jones "Freemasons Guide and Compendium" but the problem is that some Grand Lodges do not recognise them and others have their own and differing lists .

A bit like the Regius Poem, Schaw Statute and various other very old Manuscripts that are often cited as the sources of what was to become Speculative Freemasonry.
