It is a work in progress, and has not had approval yet, but the beginnings of Aarheus' web-presence have hit the web. www.aarheus.co.ukI only got lodge approval to start this on Saturday, and it will always follow the principle of 'KISS' - so there won't be any flash, or shockwave nonsense. The main purpose of our lodge website is to provide a contact point and portal for the lodge members - if we get any enquiries as a result of it, excellent, but it's not intended to be a recruitment tool.

Looks good to me Bod. Can I make a suggestion? On the Member's Page it woud help to know what Ritual you use, be that Taylor's, Logic, West End, Emulation, etc.

From what I've heard Taylorsman saying in the past, I just assumed it was Taylor's. ;D I hadn't even heard of Logic until I went into TK&S prior to meeting up with everyone and saw the Logic ritual book on a shelf. And I had a chuckle later when Aarheus' Tyler said I come from an Emulsion lodge. Nice start on the site, bod. I had meant to ask: why the .co.uk and not .org.uk domain?

I must be incredibly thick, or maybe the Christmas festivities have destroyed more than the usual number of brain cells, but I've never seen the geometric explanation of the s&c done like that before...another penny just dropped...nice one!

"Charity is one of the cornerstones of Freemasonry.
In 2004 Freemasons in the UK donated over £2.67 million to non-masonic charities.
This included grants to the Institute of Cancer Research, Leonard Cheshire, The Princes Trust, The Parkinsons Disease Society and others.
From 1982 to 2004 over £31.4 million has been donated by UK Freemasons to non-masonic charities."
Bod, Great that you highlighting this important aspect of freemasonry. It never gets a mention in the papers, etc. Well done. Well done on starting up the site also.

I was reading recently of a charity that would acknowledge any of its benefactors, but staunchly refused to acknowledge it accepted money from Freemasonry. Even when asked directly.
Perhaps lodges should consider the practices of commerical sponsorship deals and require that an S&C or similar be placed in a visible position to ensure some credit where it's due.
After all, we have
FLORA London Marathon BARCLAYS Premiership ZURICH Premiership
So why not:
EMANATION LODGE 5232 Underwater Basket Weaving Team
I'm kidding, but you get my point. ;D

Matt, I have already made my case about modernising the Masonic Charities under UGLE and devolving the main charitable activity back to the Ordinary Lodges, but I feel that it would be a good idea to put a small plaque on any piece of Equipment, Building etc paid for and provided by one of the Large Masonic Charities or by a Local Lodge. If done in a tasteful manner then nobody could justly object and this would do a lot more to inform the World at large who are not Masons, and in an ongoing basis, of the good works that we do in Society than all the pictures in the papers of a PGM or WM of a Lodge presenting a Cheque to a Matron, Chairman of a Charity etc, etc.

The geometric form looks really nice! What does that word, Aarheus, mean? I'm asking because it looks like/sounds the name of a Danish town ... (Ã…rhus/Aarhus) Thomas

It is very similar - a google offers the town as an option in case it is mis-spelt! I am told that the word is greek in origin and means 'harmony'

It's possible that it's Greek for harmony, though when I saw it my first though was that it was Dutch. Bro atarnaris would be able to confirm that, though... if he were still frequenting this fine forum. Interestingly two Greek translator websites ( link1 link2) that I found translate harmony as armonia (Latinised), but doesn't convert the Latinised aarheus into anything.

Yeah, I had that problem too.
I have found that the word doesn't appear in any online latin or greek dictionary. I have gently wandered round the subject with the LoI preceptors, but not actually got to the bottom of the mystery....
