Big probs ! I need help to find a Lodge in England (NW),UK that will accept a female who cannot believe in the Christian faith. I was informed (probably badly so) that the OES accepts females and that they have to be Christians. For me it would be an honour to belong to a Lodge and be initiated but I cannot lie about being a "real" Christian or a "true" one because I do not consider myself as one.
Kind regards, Ariel

I am not sure if OES has any stipulation as to the Religious beliefs of Members or if any are indeed required. Here is the URL for the American OES www.easternstar.org/oes/frame.html . This answers the question of Belief in God. As fars I am aware , the two Women Only Masonic Bodies, HFAF and OWF in England follow UGLE in requiring only a "Belief in the Supreme Being" and leave it to the individual as to how they interpret that. The English Federation of Le Droit Humain, the Co-Masonic Body, requires a Belief in the Supreme Being, The Great Architect of the Universe (TGAOTU) If however, Ariel, you are an Atheist or Agnostic you may find your choices more limited. Some of the French Masonic Bodies such as the Grand Orient of France do not require a belief in the Supreme Being. Some Co-Masconic bodies also require a belief in the "Perfection of Humanity" instead of TGAOTU.

I think I may have made my views somewhat confusing. I believe in a Supreme Being (the Great Architect),but I am not a Christian believer and cannot lie that I am one. As long as I believe in the Great Architect...I am happy.
Kind regards, Ariel

As long as I believe in the Great Architect...I am happy. So are we. How you might conceive of the GAOTU is up to you - you will never be ask to explain or justify that concept.

It is to the GAOTU that I will pledge my oath and my fellow Brothers and Sisters my word of honour and my friendship at all times and for all times. Ariel

I don't know about the 2 female Orders and the other Co-Masonic Order in Britain, but I certainly wasn't cued my response to a particular question in my Initiation pertaining to my beliefs. Cheers, Cora

Ariel If you look at the Website of the Grandloge of Freemasonry for Men and Women you will see that a believe in Supreme Being is required. If I was you I would just eMail them and ask.
I guess LDH is not that strict, Cora?

I guess LDH is not that strict, Cora? Crikey, I only spotted this one just now. As an Order, LDH works to the Glory of TGAOTU and / or the perfection of humanity, leaving individual Federations free to make the choice as to whether or not to insist on a belief in a Supreme Being. The British Federation very definitely does operate on that requirement. S&F, Cora
