The Wizard of Oz was written by a Theosophist trying to weave the ancient wisdom into a story for all. I don't know if he was a mason, was he?
Re: the Bible... (not my favourite book I have to say...all that slaughtering etc etc by the God(?) of Love. New Testament OK. However... remember the bit where it was said "there were giants in the Earth in those days .. some think this a reference to the dinosaurs because giants don't exist.. but in a documentary on the rooms beneath the Sphinx with Z Hawaas (The gov't official Keeper of Antiquities or some such title) there was a pond of some size and in the centre of the pond was a stone sarcophagus some 9+ ft long. I know, I know - it was a refugee from the Ancient Guiness Book of Rocords - but what if it wasn't. As is his want - Hawaas cuts off all access to the outside world when things get interesting. There were many tunnels leading off from that central room also. Makes me want to revisit what Edgar Cayce had to say on this subject.
Sure would like to be there when something really unusual happens to you.
Russell - I like the company you keep.
CoraB - There is a great piece on the Pietre Stones site -
IDENTIFIABLE FOOTPRINT OF THE CABALA IN CRAFT FREEMASONRY. My glimpses of the traces of Cabala in Craft Masonry
Suggest you check it out.

The Wizard of Oz was written by a Theosophist trying to weave the ancient wisdom into a story for all. See? What did I tell you? I don't know if he was a mason, was he? Mm. Looking at his photograph and considering the place and period, it would have been more extraordinary had he not been. www.literarytraveler.com/spring/west/baum.htmHowever, as he was something of a milquetoast as Americans used to say, or a Poindexter as they probably say nowadays, I very much doubt it.

Dear Ruff
EXCELLENT site! Thank you.
...don't you think that the "Wizard of Qz" anologies illustrate the point most clearly that:
1 That Truth (or the Answer) is relative.. 2 That each person will approach a subject from their own unique (temporary) place in the whole scheme of things according to their temperament.. 3 That the axiom "As Above, So Below" works on every level.. 4 That the symbols of Masonry are meant to work in exactly the same manner - to each symbol - each must give his own meaning.
Our interpretations point out to us 'where we are' for the moment - and keeping in mind that this is a Kabbalistic thread - it should enable us to place our relative position 'for the moment' on the Tree of Life. To be able to do this with some accuaracy is of inestimable value when dealing with life and all its challenges...
The Genius of Masonry!!

Going back to the comments of Ruffashlar (love that name). He presented the following formation:
.........Y ......Y....H ...Y....H....V Y....H....V....H
If you apply the numbers to the letters: Y = 10 H = 5 V = 6
This all adds up to 72. The number which corresponds to the 72 names of the Almighty as derived from the verses 19, 20 & 21 of Exodus 14.
