To make correlations with the Chakras (as also the Work of the Chariot site shows) is not universally accepted, and various relations have been suggested. The model shown above by Tamrin is the one that is more generally accepted when considering correlations with the human body. Personally, for such relations, I tend to concur with the Kentons, who place Yesod as the root Chakra, Tifaret as Manipura (or Solar Plexus), and Anahata (or Heart) as the combined or balancing between Pahad ( Geburah) and Gedulah ( Hesed) - Rebekah Kenton's short paper on this is available as a online here (and as a pdf). (incidentally, the above links to the Kabbalah Society, which is quite distinct to the Kabbalah Centre, from which, if I have the right information, the Dummies book originates).

I think one very important thing to bring up here is the difference between Kabbala and Kabbala.
There are several Jewish Kabbala traditions. There are also Hermetic traditions of wich the Golden Dawn variant is most known today (though not the only one). It Syncretizes a lot of things into Kabbala as a part of it´s system that is not at all present in Jewish Kabbala.
Then we have Christian Kabbala.
There is also a lot of simplified pop Kabbala out there naturally.
In short, Gershom Sholem and MCGregor Mathers cant really be compaired straight off even if both practice Kabbala.
The same can be said about Abulafia and Luria and so on.
The "tree of life" or Atz Chaii has been around for a long time, though also in different variations.
It is however just a part of Kabbala.

For me it was Masonry first, though im not a mason yet, but the subject interest, and then I stumbled across something by Albert Pike stating that the answers to freemasonry lie in the kabbalah. Thats how it began for me.

>whether it developed separately from your Masonry and then began to overlap?
I was taught Rising on the Planes (the core practical exercise) before I found the qabalah so I started with the practice and later found the theory. Later still I found Masonry
>do you find Kabbalah/Qabalah helpful?
The Tree of Life is a pattern that applies to many beings including human. So I find the Tree a useful diagnostic including for Masonic rituals
> And what have you found has been most useful in understanding and incorporating the wisdom of this mystical tradition into your daily life?
The theory of the qabalah has not been of particular use to me but the practice of Rising on the Planes is core to most of my inner work
Cheers
