I have posted this as Esoteric as it surely is Wayseer - Your Postings are hilarious - You can almost out Ruff Ruff ..although subordination amongst men is necessary to preserve subordination, yet not let us forget that we are Brothers, and those who are in a position of subordination deserve our full regard as those who have obtained a position of power and authority ... Are you a Politician or a Civil Servant. Anybody care to translate the above Johnsonion piffle

I think it means although we're all indians, there is a need for chiefs, who have a duty to serve the indians.
But that's just my take on the "riddle."

Sometimes we need to exercise caution when we read certain words. The original intent, the message if you will, may well be very clear to the writer's understanding but is not always conveyed clearly.

This 'Johnsonian piffle' is the wording used as part of the installation ceremony in various constitutions.

Then I guess The whole purpose of the Ancient Mysteries was to make men think for themselves, and there is some danger lest once an official explanation has given member will remain satisfied with this and not probe any deeper." Does one detect an ancient mystery

It is not "Johnsonian Piffle". It is a good, worthy and carefully reasoned opinion with which folks are free to agree or disagree.
I, for one, agree with the point that those Brethren who are "in charge" deserve our respect, as do any of our other Brothers. That, certainly, is not piffle. I simply don't equate "respect" with "obedience".
And, with that, I have worded my partial agreement/disagreement in a respectful way.

Personally I dislike the term "Obedience" in a Masonic setting. It resonates too much of such things as the mediaeval Benedictine Order which regulated absolutely every aspect of one's life. I prefer "Jurisdiction"

Karen, I Think you miss my point - a simple fellow like myself understands instantly The Dixiemasons and your translations - the words in the quote that wayseer used caused my brain to struggle, Words and meanings must be understood before they can be determined if they are piffle or not

I understand. It's just the "piffle" bit that bothers me. I've read " real piffle" in my time. This really does not qualify. Indeed, it could be seen as unkind. I know it would sadden me to see my own words so classified

Yep, no problem.
Stop winging and moaning about the job just get on with it, and if you were good enough you would be doing the job so you can stop moaning as well.

Bro Keith, that is what we are called, a Masonic "Obedience" just as UGLE is a "Grand Lodge" or if you prefer a "Jurisdiction".
Ironically there is more Freedom for Lodges under our Obedience than under many Jurisdictions
