Glad it is now centred and it now looks really good! Thanks to Penfold and others who worked on this.

Now if we could only get it moving across the top at a steady speed it would remind me of my Doctors surgery!!!!!
On a serious note, I like it well done to the clever ITman that sorted it out!

It certainly looks much better now that it is centered and has the MFOL wording in place. Nice job.

Bro Penfold,
S&C look a bit squashed. Is it a flaw of my PC or, rather, a general impression?

Yep, my guess is that the "width"-code is still included, expanding the image beyond its natural form. If you "view image" in your browser you'll see how it's meant to be.

Glad to be able to give something back to the site.
And you should really thank Penfold (for the original idea), Bill (code), stock photography (sky and chessboard), Kena Shriners (S&C graphic), Trajan (a very elegant font - even when stretchted and outlined) and Photoshop (layers and blends). I just did the comp.

I DON'T like the recent changes from this morning. Can we have the Pillars B & J back please, they ARE an important feature and let's have the solid S&Q not this dreadful transparent ghostly one. It looks too slick, like the masthead I would expect to see on some commercial sites. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Well, actually it was broken: the Earth was flat, the Square wasn't square, and overall it was – no offense, Pen – pretty generic clipart.
And here's the thing with columns … well, they're tall, Vertical. The banner is horizontal. Otherwise it either becomes clunky (what we had) or involves a lot of scrolling. Either way, it's not good, and they won't be back in this particular design (but I naturally wont mind at all if someone comes up with something else – with or without pillars).
I tried positioning the S&C in different places, but it was actually deliberate that it ended up where it did, as I thought it reall tied the room together: the Great Light, the light of the sun, and how it reaches the forum (of light). Still, that could probably be changed if it hurts to look at.

Still don't like it and would prefer the original even with its alleged technical shortcomings. It was far more pleasing to my eye anyway! This looks too commercial as I would expect to see as some other Forum's Masthead.
Let's have Penfold's version back!
At the very least can we ditch that dreadful wraithlike S&Q and have a nice solid gold one back in its place!
