I've just had a text message from Bod who informs me that he's ill today, so has to skip my Passing tonight. As there's already a meal and table place ordered for him, if any brother is available and would care to take his place you would be more than welcome. This post is, of course, a long shot, but it never hurts to try. Emanation Lodge 5232 will be tyled at 4:45pm this afternoon at Clerkenwell Green (London Masonic Centre at Sessions House, EC1R 0NA), which is close to Farringdon tube station ( map). The meal starts at about 7:30pm in the same building, and is £18 (includes wine). I'm departing shortly, so won't be able to respond to email for the rest of the day, and the public nature of this forum means I can't post my mobile number. If you don't have my number (Bod, Taylorsman and A_Tarnaris have it, BTW) and we've not met, then my suggestion is to don a dark business suit and white gloves, and bring along your MM certificate to the Centre and look for a cheerfully nervous rotund Australian (that'll be me!) and introduce yourself. ;D

Thanks to everyone for your replies and well wishing. The night went without a hitch and I was very pleased to hear later that I was word perfect. Though I've seen enough ritual performed now to know that this personal record won't long remain. Bro Andrew was there tonight, and I hope he had a good evening. There were 7 guests in all (including the VGO), so not a bad turnout for a small lodge. My candidate's application was proposed in lodge this evening, too, so I'm very pleased at the thought of his initiation in April. It's confirmed that I've been assigned the working tools for it (and probably for his subsequent degrees). Well, I'd better get to bed, cheerful but tired. Night all! ;D

Matt,
Congratulations on being passed to the degree of a Fellowcraft.
I am so pleased you enjoyed the ceremony and had a good evening.
I expect it all went over your head as you busy trying to enjoy the moment . Was there an explanation of the SDTB ??
Well, time to start learning those working tools for the first degree for your candidate and you will now have some further questions to learn for your third.
Well done Matt.

Congratulations Bro Matt
For many reasons the 2nd Degree is my personal favourite - there are so many lessons for us there and in particular in the meanings of the 2nd degree Working Tools
Glad to hear everything went well

I've only ever heard one version of the 2nd Degree Working Tools so I can't comment if that is extended or not but it is quite a long piece

I think it was the IPM (exact places were changed about about) who did the working tools, and it was the shortened version. I will, however, be reading up on the extended bits in my own time. My proposer did the SDTB, and he did it very well. Such a long monologue, though I imagine it's easier than the EA Charge (as the TB gives you a frame of reference). Yes, it was a lovely night.

Matt, so sorry I wasn't able to make your passing, I was really looking forward to it.
Glad to hear you had a good evening, and look forward to your raising later this year.

I believe "cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey" is an apt expression of late.

Hi Matt, Belated congratulations on your passing. I would love to get down to London sometime in the near future for another meeting. But it's annoying when work gets in the way of your social life. However next year is my 40th so I plan to disappear for 7 or 10 days around the south of the UK visiting Lodges/ Chapters etc. So lookout London and possibly Brighton

Mr mason,
i would be delighted if you visited Brighton,
hopefully it will coincide with one of my Lodges meetings.
It would be nice to meet up for a beer and a chat.

Hi Lee, I had thought about travelling down this year but I don't come out of the chair in the Royal Arch until September and then I go in as Deputy Master in the Cryptic. I am also waiting for dates for joining the Royal Order of Scotland, SRIS and my 30th. No doubt they will all come at once so nothing can be really planned this year. However nearer the time I'll get some dates of you and arrange something. Or we could all have a big party when you all come up and join my Royal Arch ;D

Thanks for the gratz, Bob. My lodge has meetings on 25 April and 26 September, so if you can make it down here for one of those you'd be more than welcome. The April meeting is the initiation of my very own candidate (in which I'm doing the working tools) and the September meeting is my third (in which I'll be forgetting my own name). But if you can't make it to either, then do let us know when you will be down as we can catch up anyway. It's not like we need much of an excuse to raise a pint with brothers, now is it.

Bob
And my metings are April 26th and sept 28th! So stick it in your Diary!
Matt, I am glad you had a good Passing and I think you must be quite excited at the prospect of having your first candidate being initiated, good luck.
