Sounds like a great idea and something I'd be up for as it would present a wonderful opportunity to meet other forumites. Yep, count me in.

As I said, in principle a good idea but I have to issue a caveat as my attendance would be conditional on who else was present, refer to the WM's remarks to the Initiate after the SW has invested them with their Apron.

The badge Yes it is a wonderful piece:-
and thirdly, as a warning to your own heart, that should you at any future period meet a Brother in distressed circumstances who might solicit your assistance, you will remember the peculiar moment you were received into Masonry, poor and penniless, and cheerfully embrace the opportunity of practising that virtue you have professed to admire.
The lines I like the most are at the end of the Initiation ceremony in the Charge
To your neighbour, by acting with him on the square, by rendering him every kind office which justice or mercy may require, by relieving his necessities and soothing his afflictions, and by doing to him as in similar cases you, would wish he would do to you.
or
Still, as a Freemason, there are other excellences of character to which your attention may be peculiarly and forcibly directed: amongst the foremost of these are Secrecy, Fidelity and Obedience.
or
Your Fidelity must be exemplified by a strict observance of the Constitutions of the fraternity, by adhering to the ancient landmarks of the Order,
or
by a ready acquiescence in all votes and resolutions duly passed by a majority of the brethren, and by perfect submission to the Master and his Wardens whilst acting in the discharge of their respective offices.

Now boys, play nice. If you want to come, great, if not, fine, but let's not turn this thread, the purpose of which is to bring people together, into a platform to vent personal variances.

That Harmony be maintained I will take a rain check on attending such an outing. I am in any event heavily committed most weekends as it is and my employment precludes many weekday meetings. For those who do go on some such get-together, be it at the sea-side, in London or elsewhere, ENJOY!

Ruff ? Weekend stay ? would you ever make it back to glasgow ?As Eddie Cantor would sing, How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm, Now that they've seen Pa-ree?Well, I must say it's a lovely idea. But, like the impecunious flagellation volunteer, I'm strapped for cash; especially since it's the Lodge Fiftieth in August, there's a wedding I'm going to (wedding presents don't come cheap - I've checked); and besides, I've another couple of ahem outside interest events coming up in the next month. So any forging of links, cementation of bricks, gaining in Masonic lustre or mixing of metaphors will have to be undertaken without me

Anyway Ruff, why travel 400 miles or so to Brighton when you could get the same in Edinburgh only 40 odd miles distant? I have lived in both and greatly prefer "Dunedin" to the eastern part of the Sussex town of Hove.

Smashing. Can I have some suggestions, please? I need input on:-
* location / venues / restaurants / accommodation * activities / places to visit * preferred time of year * preferences for weekday / weekend * suggested dates (give it a month or so -- or possibly after recess)
Not that Bro Bill is also trying to organise a gathering for his LRUK. I would not want us to clash with that, so I'll keep watching that thread on LRUK and make sure we won't find ourselves faced with 'horizontal programming'. ;D
Feel free to respond here, or directly via email on cora.b@ntlworld.com.
Cheers,
Cora

Cora,
In view of the fact that Steve won't go because he considers himself "at variance" with someone/s and I suppose that could possibly include me, I confirm I won't be there.
I think that Steve would be an important element of a get-together of this forum's members as he is a big player here.

Definitely NOT you Bro Mike! We had our differences over TFM.com and the Esoteric issue but I see that this has now been accomodated and as far as I am concerned the matter is concluded. Go and enjoy, my variance is NOT with you and is far deeper, more personal and will be far far harder to ever resolve than that issue. Fraternal best wishes to you.
As stated I will not be attending, even although my antagonist will not now be there. For one thing, weekdays are a no-no for me because of shift working, and weekends are heavily committed as you can guess!

Mike have no fear it is 'I' who would stop Taylorsman from attending I am absolutely convinced of that.
Cora, We have regular meet ups at LRUK, Brother Taylorsman would be welcome to turn up for any of them.
However I confirmed that I would not attend MFoL meet, up so as to make sure I did nothing to interfere with the smooth running of the meet up from here.
To Taylorsman I have no ill will against you Brother, my debates are as always non personal. And are to make a point that I believe to be of value, that is all. You must decide on your own feelings I have no control over them.

Of the various Masonic Fora I post to , and those which I only read, LRUK is not one of them. I have no doubt it is a good Forum but having visited it in the past I did not like its Editorial Line nor its House Style, I don't read the Guardian or the Independent for the same reason. So rest assured there is absolutely no chance whatsoever of my turning up at any get-together under the aegis of that Forum or its Operator/ Administrator.
I repeat my best wishes to those who do take part in any MFOL social gathering. I will not be there but please do have a good time, enjoy and if you wish post any photos on this Forum in due time.

Cora, We have regular meet ups at LRUK, Brother Taylorsman would be welcome to turn up for any of them. Bill trust me: I'm not even going to go anywhere near whatever the heck is bugging you two -- I just want to make sure our two events don't clash; it would be silly to hold two such similar events on or around the same date. Can we co-ordinate, please? Cheers, Cora

No bugs on me Cora.
I dont organise anything though, just go along if and when it happens.
I have successfully Mastered the art of leading from the back row.
I see no reason for any clash.

If it's Pompey then Gun Wharff Quays is an exellent place for food, there is the Char Grill Bar where you cook your own at the table, just like an indoor BARB. Like Staffs i have a few customers in Brighton, and there are some great places to go, and if your bringing partners my missus will be Masoned out within the first 5 mins if we go into the Brighton Masonic temple, but maybe a bit of retail therapy? Steve the opportunity to pass up a beer or two, tut tut.
