Greetings,
I have visited the Rosslyn Chapel a number of times and lived there for a short time as a kid many moons ago.
Was there last year and because of a simple mistake by my brother who lives near there, (he said that the day of my visit was a Bank holiday), so I had cause to telephone the Chapel and had the right person on the line who told me about the Masonic tour of the Chapel, and gave me Joe's telephone number. As it was a special trip to England with friends of mine from Singapore and Australia and the wanted to visit somewhere special. We only had 1 day for Scotland before they all had to return home after a Convention so upon their arrival we drove to some nice places in England and then they heard about Chester so we mad a mad dash to Wales. After the Convention we did a mad dash to Scotland with an overnight stay in Roslin. Joe gave us a magnificant 4 hour tour!!! of the Chapel even though we had told him that we were not Masons, he agreed to give us the tour. Anyway, it made their first tour of England, Wales and Scotland a very memorable experience for one and all. Thanks Joe.
Regards, Sid P.S. Hope the questions for the pole are okey.

I said no (becaues I haven't visited Rosslyn) but a more accurate answer would be "Not Yet" as I am determined to get there one day

Thanks Wayne, No problem, I should have written the questions better and more clearly. I said no (becaues I haven't visited Rosslyn) but a more accurate answer would be "Not Yet" as I am determined to get there one day Wayne By the way, just in case you do not know, there is also a small Masonic museum at the Chapel. The Masonic Lodge is Nr. 606 an interesting number which is the Holy City in a drawing in the first copy of the book by Simon Studion called the Naometria 1596/1604. Interestingly, the remaining foundation of the Chapel (it was not completed) is 91 feet long which is the number you get if you trangulate the number 13. (just sidbits )

I'm sure you will not be disapointed. The Chapel has now got a permanent scaffolding and roof so that the whole building is protected from the weather & can dry out in the proper way. I wasn't aware of a masonic museum there but did know that tours from a masonic perspective were available - thanks for the info Wayne The Masonic guided tour is private & should be booked well in advance. Joe also travels to Lodges to give lectures & slide shows. The people at the Chapel will give you his phone number.

A few years ago now the museum had a wonderful display of green Masonic tunics. Can anyone tell me any more about them?

I personally would be wary of calling the display at the chapel, masonic. While there are several items of masonic regalia on show there isn't great deal. In fact most of it is actually from the English Constitution.

Well I don't know how the few additional 'Gypsy' items at the small 'museum' display are linked with Masonry, but nevertheless I found everything there very interesting indeed. Are not ALL the items Masonic? I personally would be wary of calling the display at the chapel, masonic. While there are several items of masonic regalia on show there isn't great deal. In fact most of it is actually from the English Constitution. I thought it was all put together by the local Lodge 606 in the village of Roslin? P.S. I found the small dark green crystal (?) ball item there very intriguing indeed.

As far as I was informed the display was/is run by Robert Brydon, who is, as far as I'm aware not a Freemason. I've not been to the chapel for about 3 months now,( I usually visit every 2/3 months when venturing to GLoS) so I'm not aware of any new displays that there may be. However while some of the items may be masonic my question would be, what does an English Rose Croix apron and collar and Dark blue Provincial aprons of the English craft have to do with the chapel. I'm at a loss as to why there is this type of museum in the first place when the chapel is one of several collegiate churchs built in the 15th century, and not, IMHO a masonic building

Cheers, Cora Just phone the people at the Chapel and they will give you the details. www.rosslynchapel.org.uk/Book your tour with Joe, early. This also goes for the local B & B and Hotel accomodation that are close to the Chapel, as well. Have a good trip.

I was there last Wednesday and had a great time. There are a couple of people who do 'Masonic' Tours, Joe is what might be called an official Masonic guide, I had a good chat with him prior to his taking a group round., a really nice guy and knows loads.
However those who stray slightly more to the esoteric might like to get in touch with Jim Munro- a past master and in many side orders.
To try and improve my understanding of the esoteric (Stewart/Tony you would have been proud of me) I spent nearly three hours with Jim and will certainly be asking to spend some more time with him next time I am in the area.
