Stewart often puts things in his posts such as "You must listen to your Heart", or "You must follow your Heart" etc, etc, etc, etc.
Now I am a person who is ruled by his Head - Logical Analysis of a situation or plan of action and all its good or bad consequencies rather than be ruled by my Heart and let emotions drive my actions. When I have succumbed to the Heart I have usually made a decison or taken an action which whilst gratifying at the time has led to problems for me later down the line, so I try to take the logical decision.
So what are you, a Heart or Head person or do you have some other way of arriving at important decisions in Life?

I voted both. It's just a matter of balance. Heart suggests what should be done, mind demonstrates how

Where does spiritual purpose enter?

I voted both, even if I tend to follow much more my head than my heart.

Ah the eternal balancing of dark and light.
As you wander around, trying to make sense of it all with your head, you build up the necessary protective barriers and get on. Then hopefully you hear a stirring in your heart and you prepare yourself for what will be a beautiful and wonderful journey of exploration. You soon find however that the journey, for all of its immense rewards is somewhat stony and the head does not like to give away its control, and with these tests many I would imagine decide that they have travelled far enough for the moment. And we should only travel as far or as fast as we can safely. Which is why having the support of a good Lodge is so very very important to anyone who really does wish to Practice the (inner) Craft. The end result is knowing yourself, having answered the eternal questions, and coming to realise why you are here. It is a step that is so so close for everyone, yet also so so far away. And all within the framework of our daily mundane everyday life. Quite clever really.

Both and more, because there's more than than thinking (Air) and feeling (Fire); there's doing (Earth) and intuition (Water) as well.
How this relates to spirituality? Simple - Knowledge does not equate Wisdom - it can become Understanding if we allow it to pass through our heart, but it doesn't become Wisdom until its anchored in every particle of our being - and that's something that takes time and practice, experience. I can read all the rituals I want (I haven't!) but it won't make sense to me until I experience it for real.

I usually try to follow my intuition. Although that stems from the heart area it is not emotionally based.

Where does spiritual purpose enter? Cheers Russell A Great question Russell, I think at both points although not neccessarily on equal terms. Cora, I like your answer I have voted both but like any good question there is always room for several answers! I also tend to follow my head more like Vadro but I often am guided by my heart

Well, the proof if the pudding if you wish.
At the end of last week I was faced with a choice over a difficulty which had arisen for me. Had I followed my HEART then I would have set in motion a chain of events which would in all probabilty resulted in adverse consequencies for myself and almost certainly a very unhappy result for another person. Instead I weighed up all the possibilities and followed the logical answer. Just as well as my kicking my emotions into touch and following reason (that is, my HEAD), instead produced a mutually satisfactory resolution to the problem with no-one losing face or otherwise as a consequence.
Accordingly, I will continue to take my Orders from the Bridge not the Engine Room.

Taylorsman
Many have been where you are today before you, and many will be there after you. It is a difficult stage that is for sure. Whichever path you take over the coming years I wish you well on your journey.
The stage of awakening is fraught with fears, insecurities and difficulties, and progress is best measured in hindsight, and in years, not in one momentary decision. It is just a pity that you do not appear to have the education and support in Lodge within the part of UGLE that you are a member of to help support you at this critical and difficult stage of your journey.
There are some here who do understand what you are going through. You are not alone, and your position is understandable. Just relax and keep an open mind.
