I guess Harrison Ford is getting on a bit these days, then. There was talk that he'd play the part (you may remember that Brown described Langdon as being Ford-esque).
Hanks does "quirky serious" roles well (Saving Private Ryan), so I think he'll make a fine Robert Langdon. But I doubt Howard's going to lose sleep over my opinions either way. ;D

Da Vinci latest.
"11/26/04 Julia Delpy is eager to get involved in this project, eyeing the role of cryptographer Sophie Neveu. "The character is French, in her 30s and has a shade of red in her hair. I can become a redhead!" (Cinematic Happenings Under Development)"

Yes, Bod. There is certainly a sense of "tiredness" about the whole thing in certain areas. And Paris is proving to be no exception. No doubt there are similar sentiments expressed in parts of Rome and other cities around Europe. You may be familiar with Dan Brown's other book, Angels and Demons, which is set primarily in Rome. Angels and Demons is a prequel to TDVC and features Paul Langdon's first outing. I'm sure Tom Hanks will be very good in the main role. "Caroline Wyatt BBC correspondent, Paris" seems to have an eye for a story herself. Like some BBC correspondence she does seem to have a tendency to prattle on a bit. No doubt she may have aspirations of one day being a successful writer herself. If this is the case, then I wish her the best. Great link, though

Julie Delpy? There's a woman I have a weakness for. Regardless of its rating, I'll be watching it at the cinema. ;D

I had hoped that Angelina Jolie might get the part of Sophie. Stupendous actress, in my humble opinion. I'm surprised they haven't considered the French actress Sophie Marceau. A brilliant, gorgeous thespian also, and so extraordinarily french! Mais oui, mais oui

I know it's been all over the news for weeks, but Jean Reno is Bezu Fache - yay, it's Forrest Gump, Amelie and Leon in the same film ... I think it will be a pretty straight forward adaptation. The book lends itself well to the medium, and Ron Howard is not the kind of director to bring anything new to the table, imho. But then again, when a production company pays $6 million for the rights to an international bestseller, they are looking a steady hand to make good on their investment, not somebody that wants to turn it into high art - and you can certainly count on Howard not to mess things up too badly. Anyway, I know I'll go see it pretty much regardless ...

Munkholt Very interesting observations you've made about those who've signed up for the movie and Ron Howard's way of directing. I agree with you. I think Ron Howard will play is pretty straight but, as you rightly pointed out, the book itself is a fairly good story in its own right and doesn't really need to be "juiced" up and anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing the overall adaptation. At one time the Australian actor Russel Crowe was a serious contender for the lead role, but, as we all well know, American actor Tom Hanks pipped him at the post.
