Hello all, It appears I am to be made redundant, though the actual date of which could be anywhere from next week to February or March. Strangely, I'm not particularly riled about it - as I was looking for a new job, anyway. So now the job hunting takes on a new tempo.... Forgive my indulgence - I just needed to vent. Edit: Thought I shoulld practice what I preach, so made the post a little less vehement.

Matt, Look at it as an opportunity to break away into something new. IT can, I hear, be very demanding on the old intellect. Keep the Faith

I am very sorry indeed to hear that! A similar thing happened to me in 1992. I visited a Lodge on the Thursday and was Redundant the following day. Hope you find something better soon.

Bro Matt,
As you know I have recently been in your shoes. I know how it feels. To tell you anything now would be meaningless because you are justifiably angry, upset, hurt by this man.
Is it not funny we were discussing about him in the FB just this Monday?
Please get rid of all negative feelings. They will be there because you are a human being like the rest of us. But they serve no purpose. The GAOTU has done you a favour, not this man ( as he claimed with your other colleague). Something that was waiting to happen and maybe you secretly wished, happened. Now shed the old skin, fight those negative emotions, deny giving them power over you, and move forward to a brighter future.
We are all afraid of change. But change can be for the best...
Now I'll have to get you and Bod drunk this Saturday. At least someone (me) will remain sober!
Take care Brother. You are not alone. You have us...

Matt, what goes around comes around, even if it takes a long time. Try to put this behind you, take the cheque and go and hopefully get a other and I hope better job soon.
Life often redresses the balance in such cases. Perhaps one day you will be going to a Lodge Meeting and encounter your former boss, Bankrupted and Homeless "soliciting your assistance" as he sits unkempt and unwanted in his soiled clothing in a shop front, as the IT industry is a very volatile one and to quote the Late Frank Sinatra one can be "Riding high in April and Shot down in May".
BTW my London Lodge meets at 2.30pm on Saturday 4th Dec at CLMC and we are doing a First (also a Third so you would have to go out for a bit ). If you wish to attend as my Guest, let me know by PM or e-mail.

Jumile Sorry to hear about that. I'll do my best to make sure you have a cracking night on Saturday - there may be more practical ways I can help too, will speak more tomorrow. Try to remain philosophical - I've been made redundant twice - once on Christmas Eve - each time I've got a better role with more money. It's almost as if life was giving me a kick up the backside

Thank you all so much for your replies. They do mean a great deal, and I really wasn't fishing for consolation. I'm not angry, as funny as it sounds. I was made redundant from my previous job (which devastated me as I loved it, and there was a sense of its loss being my fault), but in 3.5 hours I'd turned the world ending into the opportunity that became moving to England. I have the skills and character to deal with such complications in a positive way. This role - as atarnaris has said - was not dear to my heart, and the doors of opportunity are already opening themselves up. Time will tell, and I'll just satisfy myself with the opportunity of being able to hang on for the ride... Thanks again for your thoughts.

As a somewhat mature musician I find that I am as bust as I need to be. At one time, however, I was busy, busy. Now, at the grand old age of 46, I find I can relax and enjoy life a bit. Sorry for going off topic but I just wanted to get across that I know some people are more fortunate than those who must hold down propper jobs. I never really had a "regular" job, except for when I was a teenager; I was a glass cutter, a builder's labourer. One time, in my 30's, and when I became a bit fed up with the music, I was even a bouncer But only for a brief period - too many attacks from not so nice people wealding knife and broken bottles, saw to that

Well, to provide completion to this thread. Today was the meeting. I'm now officially redundant. They have, however, given me a generous package, and I'm not required to work the time out. They've been surprisingly fair, so I can't complain (well, except for the loss of a job ). Thanks again for everyone's support.

Sad news Matt - particularly at this time of year
My thoughts and prayers are with you - here's hoping you find something suitable without too much delay

Well at least you know where you are now, Matt.
Pity you aren't able to join me at Clerkenwell tomorrow, but maybe for our Installation on the 1st Saturday in February 2005?
All the best and we really must have that pie and a pint one day in Reading where there are plenty of good restuarants and pubs which do good food.

Matt, I'm not going to give you the "when one door closes, another one opens" but I will say as a "freeman" you get to chose your own direction from now on. Chose wisely. Best of luck, mate.
