I could write a book on computer trouble, especially if I knew the jargon. Steve, you are extremely fortunate to have so many computers at your disposal. All I have is the one, my trusty old Toshiba satellite. Hasn't let me down so far, so fingers and toes crossed constantly ;D ;D

Lee, I wonder does Steve have a typical Scottish accent, or does he now sound like a southern softie ?

I dont have a Billy Connolly or a Rab C Nesbit accent, more an Edinburgh Scots, along the lines of a male "Miss Jean Brodie". ;D
The internet capabilty is still a bit hit and miss I'm afraid. No joy with the other desktop so I have to use this laptop. I'll get another HDD and rebuild the other PC.

Building a computer sounds an enormously difficult task and certainly not something I could ever envisage myself doing any time soon. So well done to you Steve for having the expertise necessary to carry out such a mammoth operation. As far as I can remember the only other two individuals on this forum equipped to undertake such a job are Bod and Matt. I'm sure there are more but for the life of me I can't really think of one. Trinityman, has just come to mind as a strong possibility. Any other computer enthusiasts wishing to own up?

Perhaps we ought to set up a Computer hints and help section for posters having problems etc.

Glad to see the gremlins didn't keep you offline for too long TM.
The 'Suggestions' section is subtitiled 'Suggestions and Technical Questions' I'd have no problems with it being used for PC techy questions as well as forum techey questions.

Been a long time since I had to have my pc apart - but thats 'cos I stopped upgrading it. It's worked fine since then too....co-incidence??? Nowadays I work on computers a little larger than the desktop PC - next equipment install (sometime this month) will be a Sun Fire E25k, 18 system boards, with memory on each board of 32Gb....I won't even start on the disk arrays...it's over 6 foot tall, 5 feet deep and weighs in at 2468lb fully configured... Just for Leo the weblink - ;D Sun Fire E25K

Suppose I'd better come out and state I work in I.T. (Systems administrator for Notts Council) and (rather sadly) quite enjoy fixing them in my spare time too. ;D

Im sure you all understand thr reason for moving this topic.
Leo ,Steves accent is exactly has he describes,
Although miss Jean Brodie must use Immac to get rid of all that facial hair

Nah - it makes her the very essence of Scottish womanhood.... ;D It's not costing me anything Leo, but it is costing someone somewhere over 6 noughts, and we're getting two of them....and I used to have such normal fantasies when I was a kid...fireman, astronaut, but no - instead I choose to spend my days in front of a small radiation device (monitor) while typing (still pumped from using the mouse...) or in a basement somewhere with clouds of halon gas a potential at any moment....not quite the same is it....
