A yes, the famous rubber keyboard and loading up from a cassette recorder. I had forgotten about the cassette recorder with its horrible noise, some like if you lift up the phone while still on line. Ouch! The surprising thing is it actually worked! Helped me greatly with my typing skills but it didn't do too much my tennis! Does anybody remember tennis game that came along with the ZX? My PlayStation 2 seems lifelike in comparison

Leo
I think that it was called Pong, and you can still play it in the Science Museum London.

My first 'pooter ever was a Speccie 48k - spent hours typing in programs from magazines only to get 'syntax error line 6945834749658734937295767'
I knew from an early age I wan't destined to be a programmer....
You don't mean the 'Rolf Harris "Stylaphone"' do you?
Originator of all those electronic versions of greensleves that you find on automated switchboards and the like. Metal 'keyboard' that was operated by a metal stylus atttached by a wire to the main device? Kind of like a musical version of 'operation'!

You don't mean the 'Rolf Harris "Stylaphone"' do you? That be the one. It had a "pen" that you used to play the notes. But, we have come a long way since the 70s

Thank goodness is right. Just imagine what it will be like 20 years from now! I'm looking forward to genuine 3D TV. or at least when you can pick up a 42" Plasma TV for about 99 Euros. (All of Europe, including the UK, will be using the Euro by then

Stewart, I hate to be a party pooper but the only way I see us ever having a "United States of Earth" would be as in the film "Independence Day" when tribal, religious, ethnic, hatreds would be set aside to combat a common foe, in this case an extra-terrestrial invader.
Otherwise there is a better chance of me being the next Pope. Now how about "Pope George Ringo I" as a title. First Bull, to abolish all the historic prohibitions on RCs being Freemasons.
Back to computers. Sorted mine out now, all I have left is to recover data from damaged hard disk. It's not critical but would be handy and save me a lot of re-work, but the system is now up and running as regards e-mail , Internet etc.
In my time I have had involvement with many computers since the early 1980s. Sinclar ZX80, Spectrum, Commodore , Taitung Einstein, Victor, Sirius, Apricot, various Amstrad PCs, now a Dell 4550 2.5GHz , 1 GB RAM, and various enhancements using Win XP Pro. One machine I never had was a BBC B. Just didn't appeal as I'm not a programmer and I understand that the BBC used an extremely pedantic form of Basic which would not have suited my emprirical approach to Life.
