Ireland just had to a remarkable victory over the auld enemy - England! Final score 19/13.
Not sure about the actual Masonic content as I didn't spot any dodgy handshakes, but I heard that Brian O'Driscoll, Ireland's No 13, might well be a member of the Craft.

Not a lot of Masonic content, but congrats on the result. Things have sure changed a lot since the dominance of England in Rugby Union of very recent times. I'd like to see the Taffs do it, they were considered the joke team only a few seasons ago, lots of references to Sheep etc, but not now.

Steve I know what you mean about Wales. And no disrespect to England, they put a very spirited performance, but I feel Wales will be thougher opposition. Whatever happens it should be a bit special. I'm off now to rub it in to an English neigbour. He's a great lad, with a great respect for FM, but we did have a flutter ;D

Incidentally on a sports theme, but having a serious connection with matters which have been discussed both here and on another forum, on BBC1, if you can receive that Leo, there is Panorama 22.15 to 22.55 tonight. It deals with the Religious antipathies which inform the Rangers v Celtic (Old Firm) matches in Glasgow.
I wonder if Ruff will be watching this, perhaps he wrote the script? But seriously, it may give people an insight to the background to the sectarian bigotry from BOTH sides which interlards what would otherwise be a normal football derby. I am glad to say that it simply does not happen down here in England where there may well be football rivalries but they are not driven by religion. Will the programme come up with any WORKABLE solutions? I doubt it! Given the intransigence of both sides I feel this situation will continue when I am long gone. Will it be even handed or based to one side ? We will have to wait and see.
If you, Ruff, or anyone else watches this I would be interested in your views.
Now you might well say, "What has this to do with Freemasonry?" Nothing at all in theory, but unlike here under UGLE where the question does not arise and I know several Roman Catholics who are Freemasons, in Scotland we are still looked upon by many RCs as a Protestant Organisation . This is ironic as the greatest Manager Celtic have ever had was both a Protestant and a Freemason, the late Bro Jock Stein.

I do have BBC1. it's available on fta (free to air) via Sky. So. I will certainly be watching, or at the very least be recording it. That's an interesting one about Jock Stein. I had heard this before but it's always nice to be reminded. Btw, neither ITV, Ch4 or Ch5 are yet available here in the South of Ireland. Not legally, anyway. It is believed they will be available at some point in the future. This according to What Satellite Magazine

Steve I know what you mean about Wales. And no disrespect to England, they put a very spirited performance, They Lost... in this PC World we see the winning time saying how good their opposition played.... There is only one winner and they beat the other side because they played to win. - In the center of a scrum there is no goody goody talk between the front rows there is just the desire to beat the Cr*p out of each other. Because of the dismal style of Rugby that England has always played, remember dreary Billy Beaumont. Everybody wants to stick it to the Poms... It is such good Fun Go the Irish ;D

For Leo and anyone else who may be interested I post this trailer for the BBC 1 Panorama Programme this evening.
"BBC One, Sunday, 27 February 2005, 22:15 GMT
This is a documentary about hate and bigotry. About sections of two communities, for generations at odds with one another, where the wrong colour of clothing can mark you out for serious injury, or even, on occasion, death. It's also a documentary about football.
Sectarianism and religious bigotry have long been accepted as part of a way of life in Scotland. The divide between Protestant and Catholic, the Orange and the Green, is most visibly reflected in the support for Rangers and Celtic which begins early and spreads from parent to child, from one generation to the next.
Only last year, the First Minister, Jack McConnell, labelled this particular brand of hatred, "Scotland's secret shame."
It manifests itself most dramatically during what is called the greatest club fixture in the football calendar - the "Old Firm" derby between Rangers and Celtic. After a recent match, there was one murder, three attempted murders and 62 arrests during a night of violence.
On days like this, emergency callouts for Accident and Emergency teams will increase by 66%, the vast majority made up of violent or drunken assaults between opposing fans.
Legislation has now been introduced which outlaws sectarian behaviour. Panorama investigates the effectiveness of the legal challenge and for the first time puts the two major Glasgow football clubs under the spotlight as they attempt to rid sectarianism from their supporters. It also explores the violence and mayhem that undermines and erodes the new image that Glasgow and Scotland want to present to the outside world.
Contributors include the First Minister, Jack McConnell, Rangers and Celtic Football clubs, and interviews with those who have carried out acts of sectarian violence."
Worth watching I feel.

i will endeavour to watch it and hope if it is narrated by a Glaswegian that i will be able to understand it.
last Saturday there was a film about some young lads growing up in Glasgow and the accents were so strong and undecipherable to us southerners that it had subtitles and if you tried to listen without reading the subtitles it was like listening to a foreign language.
I expect that they cant understand our strange dialect either ?

Yaki Da, or however you Taffs spell it. (probably full of LLs) ;D Iechyd da, I believe. I took a semester in Cardiff. Five Nations was on the weekend I arrived, leaving me in no doubt as to what was the national sport! (too bad Wales played like a broken arm ... that was in '96). And last thing I did before going home was wathing the cup final in Arms Park (Pontypridd vs Neath (wait! they had a Maltese cross, didn't they? So, there's a FM-theme after all!)). Great, great experience. I'm not a rugby fan, but I'll root for Wales just for old time's sake.

Thomas, Rugby is a wonderful refined culture, I visited Cardiff Arms Park with my Welsh In- Laws , we travelled by train from Shropshire, and had to chuckle - in our compartment were half a dozen youg Welshmen, all talking about the game, and the rugby teams they played for. amongst the 6 Boyo's I noticed 4 of them had limbs in Plaster ;D You may note the Welsh Team had our Current National Coach coaching them recently.. Re the rugby world cup... what a boring way to win with a drop goal in the last moments... unless it is our team doing the kicking ;D

It is good to see the game open up and one of the other 5 Countries win. Don't get me wrong, in most sports situations when England are playing a foreign country I am rooting for England but it was becoming boring having them vitrually own the Rugby.
