I read the book but was not that impressed as it was a rehash of material from "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" interlarded with a typical adventure "cops and robbers" pursuit story, with Opus Dei thrown in.
The DVD may be an aid to those puzzled by the book.

As a dear Brother said when we were talking about the book, "One shouldn't allow the facts to get in the way of a good story"... the story is quite good, but I can't say that I believe much of it.

Well, I have placed my order and should be watching the DVD in a day or so. I will post a review on it here.
As most will already be aware, especially those who know me from another forum, I am a bit of a fan of the genre and I was particularly impressed with the book, by Dan Brown. Although I do not have a bull's notion as to how accurate, or otherwise, it is, I did thoroughly enjoy reading it and would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it to others who might have an interest. Naturally, I readily acknowledge that it may not be as accurate or as authentic as the author would suggest, but it is, nonetheless, incredibly enjoyable to read. IMO.

staffs, let me get this right...are you asking about the regular, run of the mill "Da Vinci Code" that's been tearin' up the sales charts for the past 2 years??
In that case....I'm gonna leave this answer ALL up to LEO, but if not, you should post a link to the book your talking about

Lee,
As the unofficial "expert" in absolutely everything by Dan Brown and a genuine "aficionado" of the Da Vinci code, I can honestly say, with my hand on my heart, that this book is a genuinely good read.
As to its authenticity, I cannot say. But if you enjoy a good read, with lots of intriguing characters and a fairly decent plot, with lots of subplots, then this is the book for you.
No doubt there will be those who will totally disagree with me, however I would ask you to keep in mind that although this book is meant to be fictitious, a lot of the stuff has been "verified" by certain "experts" in the genre.
My suggestion would be to read it and draw your own conclusions.

I recently purchased this particular documentary on DVD called: Unlocking Da Vanci's Code: mystery or conspiracy? I feel I should point out at this stage that this documentary has nothing to do with the Dan Brown book of the same name but it does touch upon some of the subjects contained within his book. One in particular is the holy Grail. Patrick McNee, from the Sixties television series The Avengers, is the narrator. I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable and fascinating documentary and a would have little hesitation in recommending it to those who have an interest in the genre. I don't wish to give way too much about it except to say that it details quite a lot about the Knights Templars, the Priory of Sion, Renne Le Chateau, the holy Grail and of course Leonardo da Vinci. I shan't give away its conclusions on the holy Grail publicly, so as not to ruin it for those who may wish to see the documentary themselves, but if somebody e-mails me I would be more than happy to let them know. Incidentally, the DVD can be purchased from www.play.com.

I know this is a favourite of Leos .
I have just finished reading this and found it a bit of a slow starter but once i got into it i could not put it down until it was finished and it became compulsive reading.
BUT :
Having seen the film National Treasure first i saw several similarities between the da vinci book and This film .
I wonder if the Da Vinci film will be quite similar to National Treasure Film which i suspect used the Da vinci book for some of its storylines.Too coincidental if you ask me.
Which i had read the book a long time ago.

Thank you Lee,
It is certainly a thoroughly entertaining read - I have actually read it about three times now and although I don't find it as convincing as I did when I originally read it I still believe it is a darn good yarn.
There is a book that has recently been released on the market called: Truth and Fiction in the Da Vinci Code, by Bart. D. Ehrman. It is an attempt, a thoroughly convincing one, at counteracting some of Dan Brown's claims in his book, the Vinci Code.
Here's some from the back cover:
From the bestselling author of Lost Christianities and lost Scriptures. An insightful and entertaining look at the truth behind one of the biggest blockbusters in recent publishing history.

The chapters location near my apartment had an actual section of shelving (i'm talking about 4-shelves in height here)......dedicated to various "adding to" or "proving wrong" da vinci code books
I have one of them....Cracking Da Vinci's Code(078144165). And i'm not geoing to review it fully, since it is so brutal, i'm just giong to flat out say do NOT bother with this. I understand some of the alternatives are quite good however.

Stash,
Some of these books attacking Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code do go a bit over the top. I think I have read most of them at this stage. In fairness to them they do make you aware of the "plot-holes" that exist in Dan's book and are in themselves, some at least, little treaure troves.

Wait until Brown's next novel comes out, Brothers. You ain't seen nothing yet.
I attended a presentation at Scottish Rite several months ago, which featured Dr. Jim Tresnor as our speaker. Dr. Tresnor is a Masonic Scholar and an author and reviewer associated with Oklahoma Scottish Rite, and he drove up here for dinner and His program.
He said that Brown's next novel will be set in Washington, DC, and have a lot of references to Washington being laid out in a Masonic grid. He also said that Masons will be the "good guys". Brown phoned Dr. Tresnor repeatedly to ask about Masonic references and situations He was putting in the novel, and Dr. Tresnor vetted the material for Brown.

Yes, Kansas, I had heard the his new NOVEL is to be very Masonic themed. Clever boy is old Mr Brown, he certainly knows what sells Still though I imagine it will do nicely on the back of TDVC

Oh dear Leo - now you're confusing new members with your Dan Brown obsession - time to come out of the closet and admit you are DB's publicist and agent for Ireland... ;D ;D 'TDVC' is Leo short hand for 'The Da Vinci Code'
