It means that the members of your future lodge have voted to decide if you are to be allowed to join the lodge . Therefore any fears you have had about being "blackballed" can now be dismissed and you will be initiated on the date of the meeting stated. Well done and congratulations. Let us all know the date and keep us updated please.

Thank you to you both it is great to know the people in masonry are as helpful as I expected. I am not from a masonic family (I am the first). The date is the 18th April Tuesday. I am looking forward to it but still nervous.

Welcome Ben, There's a seperate thread for introductions: staffs.proboards37.com/index.cgi?board=New That's a good place to start. Have a look around and see if some of your questions have already been covered, if maybe there's a thread that you can add to, or you should start a new one. Don't worry too much about it – no one will bite your leg off, if you get it wrong the first few times. Just, take your time to get acquainted with the forum – there are a lot of topics here (and interesting ones, at that!).

Hey Jumile,
I was initiated on July 4th (last tuesday) and for every word your artical articulated...it was worth it. I remember i had read it a couple of months ago and i really did not know how to embraceit, until the day came and now i sit here knowing exactly the feeling, of how it all turned out to be. Thank you on behalf of all the others who will join the fraternity...for they will discover a truth they have never known before.

As a new member I am not sure about how to be intiated ! A big burden...I am female ! I would feel very proud to be initiated into OES and to respect all my brothers and sisters who have the deepest respect for Freemasonry. I was informed (probably badly) that one has to be a Christian to belong to the OES...I hope that this is not compulsory ! Many thanks, Ariel

Many thanks, Ariel Don't know about OES, Ariel, but it's certainly not a requirement for LDH. A belief in a Supreme Being, yes, but we don't ask for any particular religious affiliations. Correct me if I'm wrong, btw, guys, but isn't OES adoptive Masonry? Cora

quite correct, Cora!
OES is adoptive Fm and I would not suggest to Ariel to join it.

Hi ariel, You may fnd the following link to be of assistance: www.easternstar.org/oes/join.html as both Cora and Gio have noted the OES does not actually make you a Freemason in the way that the Feminine and Mixed Orders do. You are placed symbollically under tha protection of the Masonic Order and have distinct secrets and Ritual. I think they still have the requirement of an existing Masonic connection. There is quite a good description of it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Eastern_StarIf you actually wish to be made a Mason it will be either Feminine or Co-Masonry that you want. M

OES is NOT Freemasonry. It is a different path and does not claim to be Masonic. It is a path that works for many and I know a number of folks who are members. I respect that path and will say nothing against it.
However, I would do an evil thing (as do others who do this very thing) if I were to suggest OES to someone who feels called to Freemasonry. However, if you're called to the Star, it is the right place to be.

Many thanks for pointing out that OES is not "truely" Freemasonry. I thought that being a female the chances of become a "Freemason" was not possible, but I now know, with your helpful advice, that co-Masonic Lodges do allow females. It is to the latter that I am drawn to and not OES. It is a case of Freemasonry or nothing for me, be it all female or male/female. The next step is to find someone who will guide me in the right direction and the final step to be Initiated. My dream will come true and my keeness is as strong as ever, particularly after finding this site. Kind regards, Ariel

The British Federation has 2 Lodges 'up North': one in Rochdale and in Farnley near Leeds. Most of us do have to travel a fair distance to get to our Lodges; my monthly trek is 2 hours door-to-door -- but it's very definitely worth it (plus it gives you time to go over your ritual on the train*G*) You have my email , shout if I can help. Take care, Cora

Ariel, Cora is the best guide here for Co-Masonry in the UK (I live in Oregon ;D ). I hope you find your mother lodge soon. And this (with my italics): (broad, happy smile) Where you are now, I also was not so long ago. It can be something of a dark, bumpy path but there *are* friends along the way and you cannot help but find them. It is very, very helpful to know that everything that is ahead of you has been experienced by those also ahead of you. And with you. And those who are coming behind you. Come back in a year (I'm sure you'll be initiated by then) and reread what you've posted and you'll see what I mean
