I have been doing research of the Free Masons (avoided stuff with anti - mason views and stuff about secret words and whatnot) but basically what Free Masons stand for. I must say I am interested in trying to become a Mason. My question is how? I do not know anybody who is a mason, so how would I go about doing it? I know you guys don't recruit so should I go to a local lodge and ask to join? I am sorry if this has been asked before I have searched the forum with no results. I just want to do everything the right way and not seem ignorant when trying to join a lodge. Thank you in advance.

I'm sure gio and a few other freemasons on here can help you, i'm not a mason myself, but there's no harm in researching it, even the bad stuff, i've seen a lot of it, so far i think that anti-masons are just arrogant, and clearly don't understand, they look at individual cases involving crimes then blame it on freemasonry, anyone can see most of it is nonsense, but yeah by all means read up on it, then if you have any questions ask here and i'm sure they'l help you.

It would be useful to know where you live as advice will be specific to the country or even region/state

Read and Research as much as you can, I did, but avoid the Anti stuff, most of it is distortions of the Truth or downright lies and invention. Visit your local Masonic Temple if it has an open day. Send me a PM if you like and I will suggest some good books to read. Good Luck in your quest.

Write to your local Grand Lodge and ask for information on joining and to be put in touch with a local Lodge that can help.

marinosz , try just going along to that lodge near you and just knock on the door and introduce yourself telling them that you are interested in becoming a mason.
i think you will be pleasantly suprised at what a warm welcome and friendly response that you will receive.
Knock and it shall be opened to you !!

really? That was my first instinct, but was thinking maybe they would see that as unprofessional. I will definately try that though. What do you think would be proper attire? Also is there a certain time when I should try to go? I have tried to find out when they hold their local meetings but haven't had success yet. Thanks for the info!

If Hamilton, NJ, is the same as Hamilton Square, NJ, here's the lodge to contact - Gothic Fraternal Lodge #270, 3682 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. They meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. The lodge's phone number is 609-587-5057. Call this coming Monday evening when they are having lodge and tell them you are interested in becoming a Mason. I'm sure you'll get a very welcoming response! By the way, this information comes from njfreemasonry.org/finder.htm which lets you find a lodge by name, city, or county in New Jersey.

If theres a will, theres a way. You may check the meeting time and days of a lodge near you and inquire as''walk-in''. Or you may ask the name of the lodge near you and search for their lodge in the internet and send them an e-mail. Goodluck. and hope your search will be a fruitful one.
