So, copying and pasting from the UGLoA website makes a blog? I am new here and looking to become a Freemason. My great grandfather was a 33rd degree Freemason. Ggrandpa was a pillar in society and I've always associated his character as exemplying that of Freemasons. But quite a bit on this board, and a post like this, seems mostly about petty bickering, and control over others to the point of being the "Blog Police", and "word police", with a few pretentious "Brother this, Brother that" thrown on top. Is this what Freemasonry has become or did I just stumble onto the wrong forum poster to get a such a bad initial impression? D My thinking is always the same, and pertains to everything, not just Masonry. Go on the example of those around you and not what you read on the internet. I just lost a brother over something that he read on an internet Masonic forum, someone that I have known for 25 years

I love my Grand Lodge. The guys there truly are my family, but that is after working with most of them for the last 5 years. (I'm the little brother that always gets the wedgie) However this whole situation seems a bit odd. Odd is a good description.

With modern communications over the Internet etc I don't see the problem of the locations of a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient.
My Grand Lodge in LDH is in Paris, our UK Federation is run from Surbiton in Surrey. It seems to work well and has done so for over 100 years when such means of instant communication were not available.
Accordingly I do not see that the Grand Orient of France being 3000 miles away from the Grand Orient of the USA is of itself any problem these days.

Delighted to learn you have an interest in joining Freemasonry. Don't be discouraged by some of what you read here as this forum only reflects the opinions of a few Brothers and is in no way fully representative of the Craft, which is above such misunderstandings. Your grandfather sounds like the type of Freemason many here would like to emulate and aspire to. Use him as your an example to follow. Others may well let you down. I wish you well as you investigate further.

indeed, vt, its an internet forum, not real life or anything important. Ohh I didn't mean to come across like that at all. In fact some of the best Masonry I found has been right here on these forums, this one in particular. I found however looking specifically with something in mind, something that may have been missing for me. At my point of search however, I have a pretty good grasp on to how to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. The key is what we can take to the brick and mortar lodge from the electric one.

I am no official spokesperson, just an enthusiastic Brother. I think of the Grand Orient as my familt so it is easy to say we when speaking in regards to your family. I apologize for any confusion. Dude. To my knowledge the lodges of the Grand orient are 3000 miles away from you. I'm not even sure hat you have a lodge, but it must be bound to someone else. Well Errol, perhaps you should get on a flight sometime and check things out for yourself. I will be happy to pick you up and show you around. Brad www.grandorientusa.com

That was a revalation to me to. There are some great people here. Unfortunatley, some are taking the poistive events from the last few days and are twisting it with venom. Soon they will realize how infantile it is. Change is not always easily accepted. Learn the principle, abide by the principle, and dissolve the principle. In short, enter a mold without being caged in it. Obey the principle without being bound by it. LEARN, MASTER AND ACHIEVE!!! Bruce Lee God Bless, Brad www.grandorientusa.com

Brad, there is change, and then there is change. Sometimes there is a difference of opinion as to the value of the change proposed. I have been a change manager for years and years now in conjunction with my contract jobs in documentation and training. You are mistaking a difference of opinion over proposed value with twisting and venom. And of course, calling someone infantile for disagreeing with you is not very masonic. Why is it when you can't support your arguments with facts, you descend to name calling? I do not see the value in what you are advocating. That simply means that, for me, as a member of a regular Grand Lodge, I do not see the need for it. The vast majority of your proposals are either being implemented by various grand lodges, or are seen as having no validity by the regular grand lodges. For instance, allowing women into our lodges just isn't going to happen. That does not mean, as you implied to Karen earlier in this thread, that we consider her fake or less than, nor have I said any such thing. There is a difference, and I am okay with continuing that separation. If you are okay with it, then good for you, knock yourself out and have a great time. Its not for everyone, and I for one, do not understand the overwhelming need by some few to demand that masonic lodges all open to women. There ARE co-ed and women only lodges, so no one is kept out of freemasonry. If the Grand Orient thing, that accepts atheists and women and men who have been kicked out of their grand lodges and who abscond with lodge property and so on and so forth is okay with you, hallelujah... why is it though, that you cannot accept MY right, and the right of the rest of us, NOT to accept that this... "New and Improved" UGLoA is any more useful than the old UGLoA? You seem to feel free to criticize the Regular and existing grand lodges... given that your experience with freemasonry is so broad and deep, and cheer lead for the Grand Orient, can you not accept that others have just as much right NOT to cheer lead for it? Theron, this constant game of wack-a-mole is getting tiresome. I am sorry that you are so upset that others may want an alternative. You are going to have to eventually learn to accept it or learn to ignore it. No amount of gaslighting is going to stop it, and that is the reality. I do not care in the end if the GOof the USA (or what you call for insults sake the new UGLA) has any value to you. Really, it has value to me. So, from myperspective that is what matters. You state that I have failed to provide facts, that is unture but one truth is absolutley clear. No amount of facts are going to open your mind about this. The only thing that could is the piece of paper on your lodge secrataries wall. Good for you. In the end of the day I hope you have a great day Theron. May the G.A.O.T.U. bless you and yours throughout time. God Bless, Brad www.grandorientusa.org [b ]"All fixed set patterns are incapable of adaptability or pliability. I'm puzzled as to why you have left it so long before making your first post, having registered back in September I would have expected to see a more pertinent post than this as your first entry Hi Pen, I registered in September, looked around the board briefly, then put it aside til now when I am already preparing for New Year's Resolutions. Freemasonry is at the top of the list. Thanks for noticing and asking. To All, thanks for the welcome and replies on this thread. D

Brad I too am beginning to find this game of "Wack-a-mole" rather tedious.
You have your opinions regarding GO of USA, and broadly and on a personal basis (as I am nobody's spokesman) I sympathise with you. Bro Theron has his which tend to back the "Establishment". As far as I can see there is no common ground and unlikely ever to be either. All that is happening is that Heat is being generated and Light snuffed out. Nobody is achieving anything of moment as there is no chance of a Meeting of Minds.
Personally I feel that a moratorium could be sensible with each of your agreeing to differ, you and GO of USA proceeding as it may, and Bro Theron in his Grand Lodge doing likewise.
