Well its a mix, the Mc with a small c usually indicates Irish decent.
I am from a family of Irish tinkers, or was it stinkers? County Kerry. Little village called ballymcelligott.
Scottish land owners took over large sections of Kerry. Changed the 'fitzelliotts' name to an Anglicized derivative of McElligott.
So I am a mix of Macleod + Fitzelliott and various English bits.
But yes the rings are offered with or without a 'G'. It ends up as a personal choice.

I am wondering how many of our members actually wear the ubiquitous Mason's Ring? Definitely i ll buy one! Thinking of a Gold one with a dark blue background and a "Ã" in the centre of the S&C. I ll wear it with the points of the Compasses towards me and on my right 4th finger.

Leo i am afraid its hard to find it outside Greece, unless you make a special order as ill do to a friend who trades with jewelry. I dont have any photo to show you but just think of this .. i1.iofferphoto.com/img/item/323/798/01/41508234_tp.jpg.. with à (for Ãåùìåôñéá - Geometry) or Ì (for ÌÁÔÓ=GAOU) in the middle instead of G.

I wear mine from time to time. It all depends on what I am doing. Mine is great. It is silver with the compass and G displayed prominently in a bright blue stone on top. I get a lot of compliments on it.

"is it to do with lodge being blue and chapter being red. thanks"
Quite possibly, especially if the Blue Ring has the S&Q with the G in the centre (Craft) and the Red Ring has a Triple Tau instead.

hi lauderdale no i meant if both rings have S&Q with G in center and stone in center of C but red or blue background. i would understand if red ring had triple Tau. my wife bought me a red ring as a surprise 25th anniversary present. I am in both lodge and chapter but not seen anyone with a red background ring. thanks

Neither have I Bro Bill Read, usually the red rings are HRA. I have seen a KT Ring with the Red KT Cross on a white background.

I don't think there's a particular reason for it. I once saw in a jeweller's window one where the cushion was green, and black ones are fairly common - Toye Kenning, Millennium Mark and Victoria Regalia all sell black ones.

i would post a picture of it but not sure how to post a picture on here. Hi Bro. Bill and welcome to the forum. If you you wish to upload photos the following will set you on the right track, which I have copied and pasted from my music forum but the info is as relevant here as there. In fact, I think I originally copied it from here in the first place as it was originally written by Bro. Lee Good luck to you. ************************************************** There are a few options but the one that I find the easiest is as follows.
go to www.imageshack.us , select "browse", find the photo that you want to upload, highlight it, and press Okay/Open Finally, click "Host it!"
Make sure that none of your images are too big. Images greater than 1024kb will not upload. To find out your image's size, please right-click on the icon of your picture and select "properties". There, you will be able to see the size of the image in kilobytes. Most images, however, are much smaller than the 1024kb size limit.
Also make sure that your image is of the allowable filetypes, which are .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, and the .swf flash file. ImageShack also accepts bmp, tif, and tiff filetypes.
After this, you will see an upload-done page. Please select the image code that is surrounded in . If you are trying to hotlink to a website or eBay auction, make sure to use the HTML code that is provided for you (<img src="" />
Afterwards, you can submit your message board post. However, you can put as many images as you want into a single post. You can also upload as many images as you want. In order to speed up the process, I recommend registering at reg.imageshack.us/register.php
Registration will allow you to upload multiple images at the same time via ZIP upload or by using the Microsoft Publishing Wizard

Here is a selection of rings to refer to. These are UK made. www.sell-buy.net/jewellery/MasonicJewellery.htmYou can identify the KT, RA and OES rings , unfortunately one of the manufacturers went bust last year [you would not think a Jeweller would but they do] so a couple of the designs can not be obtained now, but most can.

Bill
What exactly is the "cross & crown" ring. I've heard people say it's for a past preceptor, but I've also heard it described as Royal Black Preceptory (which may relate to its catalogue ID RBP) and I understood that to be an extension or the Orange Order.
Thanks

Yes it seems to cover both Preceptor and Royal Black Preceptor, Orange Order. Certainly I have had orders from English and Scottish addresses.
There are Irish orders that use the 2 1/2 also.
I have not sold so many, someone else wrote to me and said I should not have it in the catalogue, but it is in the range I get from that Masonic supplier.
I am not in KT so I don't know that much.

Lovely selection of rings, Bro Bill, I must buy one (perhaps more) from you a reversible S&G, with of course a G. I also like the KT Ring. BTW the Crown and Cross is Royal Black Preceptory a Senior Order in the Orange System, the 21/2 is also Orange. I can also see the Scottish HRA in your selection.
