Elsewhere on the page it provides an example of 'masculine' terms being commonly used to encompass both genders, e.g., 'mankind' and 'medical fraternity.' This has only recently become a prominent issue and is especially understandable coming from a language in which gender is entrenched.

The above statement is from the GOdF web site - note that it specifically states "men". Yes I noticed. But they must be a bit confused further down you find things like.. The refusal of racialism and of segregation of all sorts is inseparable from the "laïque" ideal. "laïcité" can teach individuals to cooperate, to find a certain understanding and harmony in their differences. We have already described the dangers of separate communities.Maat
