Hello all, I am a curious 24 yr old male who, in what I've learned about it, is interested in Freemasonry. Unfortunately, what I know is very little and I am a little unsure about how legitimate the sources are I find on the Internet. Before I make any commitments, I would like to be very learned for myself and for the lodge I may join's sake. If you have website links, online documents, or texts I can find, please let me know. I am Christian and work in the Healthcare industry, just to give a little background about myself. Thank you in advance!

Firstly, welcome to the forum. I Hope your visits prove helpful in determining what direction you eventually take. It is good that you've decided to look beyond what's usually available on the Internet as unfortunately much of what you read is from very imaginative minds and not very reliable but as the old saying goes, "seek and ye shall find." As the subject of Freemasonry is so vast my advice initially would be to simply have look over the forum and see what grabs your attention and when you have more specific information or areas of interest we'll be better placed to assist you. You can also check out websites for particular GLs, (Grand Lodges) this one: www.droit-humain.org/uk/ deals specifically with the area of Freemasonry I belong to, which is known as Co-Freemasonry which allows both men and women to join equally.

Welcome to the forum, your options for membership will vary depending on where you live, and if you want to join a single sex order, or a mixed order. So, where in the world are you, and do you have a preference for male/female only or mixed masonry?

Well, I live in Rosenberg, TX, USA which is about 20 minutes southwest of Houston. I don't have a hard preference for a single sex lodge, just because i actually didn't know about Co-Masonry...

More options than you thought - I'm not aware of any options for female only masonry in your area, but I do believe that there are male only and co-masonry options in texas, hopefully one of our knowledgable US bretheren will be able to offer you more relevant advice.
Good luck with your search, and keep the enquiring mind going, it will serve you well!

Greetings!! I just came from your other thread and I see you're not a Freemason yet. Sorry, I should have kept reading You can find out whether my Obedience has a lodge in Texas by contacting the GL via the link in my signature. However, I don't think we have a lodge in that state. LDH or George Washington Union might and some of those Brothers may be along soon. If you are looking into Malecraft Masonry, then you have more options. I understand Prince Hall Masonry is very active in Texas. There is, of course, the largest of them all in that state, the Grand Lodge of Texas. Good luck to you.

Penfold, the poster's profile says "male" so the female option doesn't come into it

I don't trust profile's - people don't always fill them in accurately, which is why I prefer to ask, and get an answer

True, one can be anything one wants to be on the Internet, a fat bearded middle-aged man such as myself could adopt a female nom-de-plume and avatar and put myself across as a 20 something pretty young woman if I wished.

I personally give all our members enough credit to know what they're doing when they click either the "male" or "female" option in their profile and could never just assume they have made a mistake. If they have they'll soon realise their error. Of course, if for example someone called Mary posts "I want to join Ladies only Freemasonry," but their Profile says "Male" we could then quite naturally assume they accidentally clicked the wrong option. Now, some members will deliberately go to great lengths to disguise their gender for one reason or another, but until it's confirmed otherwise we should at least take them at their word.

Oh great , now I have a picture in my mind of Steve in a dress sitting at his computer playing Bingo like the advert on the tele.
