I find both of the available colour schemes difficult to read. I know that on some of these boards the administrator can choose to offer users the option of half a dozen or more colour schemes or as in this case just a couple. Because of the colour chosen far too much of the content is simply illegible. Mid grey background with black and white text would be great - any chance before my eyes start bleeding

Hi David.
Sorry to hear of your reading difficulties. The colour schemes currently available have been around for a number of years without any (to my recollection) suggesting them difficult to read so this is a first for me.
And you're right; it is possible to offer another alternative along the lines you mention, one that you, or any with similar reading difficulties could opt to use instead of those available at the moment. However, this would have to be set up by someone in the admin team with the necessary know-how - I can have a go myself but our resident colour expert is Penfold and unfortunately he's a bit tied up right now but hopefully he'll be along soon an we can mention this to him.
As I said, I can do this myself, in fact, I have done so several times on my music forum but sometimes creating different skins can be a bit tricky, the need to get the colour mix right, etc...
Anyway, leave this with us for awhile and we'll try and work out something for you.

Trouble is to that changing the colour to suit one reader may then make it difficult for others to read. Have a look at this, my Forum. It uses the same Proboards engine as MFOL but as you see the colour scheme is different. Would it be easier for your eyes. www.chkrpavement.proboards91.com/index.cgi

Steve, Proboards have it so the admin can offer a range of colours (skins) that individuals can choose according to suitability. Thing is, the colour schemes need to be set up and given names so they can be accessed via a users profile.

Thanks for the heads-up on that Leo. Nobody has asked me to change the colour scheme on my forum so I wasn't aware that it was possible to customise it on an individual basis.

You are welcome Bro. Most fora allow for skins changes and Proboards made it easy enough but to be honest it's sometimes better to just go to a dedicated skin website such as www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm or html-color-codes.com and chose your own colour codes, copying and pasting them into the relevant fields on your forum. This is usually best for doing a total overhaul rather than a few simple changes as suggested by David.

Hmmmmm. So could the admins here set up a skin (oh, but I love all the technical jargon) for Bro. David and others to select? And, yup, it's been this way for years but . . . well, I do rather enjoy the speakeasy feel of the dark blue I seem to have chosen but there are times I'd like something brighter and happier. Any chance of installing chintz curtains in the windows?

Hah! Karen, technically it's possible to amass an array of different and varied skins that members can chose via their own profiles and when necessary, the "dark blue" is as far as I'm aware is the current default setting. I prefer this setting myself; I guess I have become accustomed to it down through the years since Penfold set it in motion on Lee's behalf.

K, I went poking around to see how to change my skin (tee-hee). I clicked on "Profile" at the very top (to the right of "logout"); then I clicked on "Modify Profile" at the top of the next window; then I scrolled a good ways down until I found I found "Select Skin". Yup, mine was set to default but I saw there also was an option for "Penfoldsplayroom". I tried that and . . . I love you Bro. Penfold but that was too much for me Anyway, could we have more skins?

Yes, thats exactly what I did (selected another skin). I wouldnt dream of imposing my views on others. I ran a forum a while ago and has been said as administrator I could simply dial in how many options all users could choose when viewing the forum on their own pc. I do know that facility varies depending upon the provider of the board software and there are many variations.

Difficult to explain.

Mayhap you had no complaints before because you didnt have such an old curmudgeon as me on the board. I used to blame my colour blindness on my mother - I thought it was simply because ehe had told me the wrong names. I once worked with a chap who saw everything in monochrome - which many people think is what it means to be colour blind. Slainte, David

Glad you liked it Bro David and I have just approved your account there so feel free to post on anything that takes your fancy.
I find black text on a light background easier to read then white text on dark.

David, sorry to hear you are having problems readin the forum. I will endevour to get some time to create a range of skins for people - once I have got my way to the top of the paper mountain generated by HMRC and others!
