Been trying not to think about this one for a while now but it's crept back into my life and I'm back in the rabbit hole, or money pit, as it were. The fact that even to this day modern technology cannot beat this ingenious system really just blows my mind. Hieroglyphs, coconut fiber, the Knights Templar, pirates, Francis Bacon, Marie Antoinette. It's got all the right ingredients. Anyone else here into this? There are plenty of resources out there with diagrams and details but here is the wikipedia entry for an overview: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_Island

the whole thing is really quite maddening. drives me bonkers. i'd love to lean to the whole Francis Bacon thing, even if its illogical, just because i'm a Bacon enthusiast. but someone with some advanced science/engineering knowhow obviously was involved. the fact that there are two translations of the first stone make it frustrating. the original of "40 feet below, 2 million pounds are buried." or whatever seems more plausible than the whole thing about the Arifs to me. the bits of parchment too. gah, i hate this thing! they are supposedly digging again this year. my fear is that by the time they get it out it will have been destroyed by water from all the holes bored through over the years. have you formed any theories of your own on what it might be?

I actually know someone who is planning to SCUBA DIVE down into the Oak Island Pit. Dayum, I would give a LOT to be able to go along for the event! Personally I can't help but think it's all some kind of hoax, myself. I find it hard to believe that somebody way back when would actually carve a message on a rock to let people know " the gold is 30 feet deeper down" or whatever the message was.

Unable to take in wood and water in Iceland because of a hostile reception by the inhabitants,
"Sinclair, seeing he could do nothing, and that if we were to persevere in this attempt, the fleet would fall short of provisions, took his departure with a fair wind and sailed 6 days to the westwards; but the winds afterwards shifting to the southwest, and the sea becoming rough, we sailed 4 days with the wind aft and finally sighted land."
"As the sea ran high and we did not know what country it was, we were afraid at first to approach it, but by God's blessing the wind lulled, and then there came on a great calm. Some of the crew pulled ashore and soon returned with great joy with news that they found an excellent country and a still better harbor." "After eight days the 100 soldiers returned, and brought work that they had been through the island and up to the hill, and that the smoke was a natural thing proceeding from a great fire in the bottom of the hill, and that there was a spring from which issued a certain substance like pitch, which ran into the sea, and that thereabouts dwelt a great many people half wild, and living in caves. They were of small stature and very timid. They reported also there was a large river, and a very good and safe harbor." - The Zeno Narrative Nova Scotia = New Scotland www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/masons/glooscap.html

I happened to catch this on the history channel, sounds way too frustrating to figure out now the seals have broke on the water trap. It seems to me though that if it were gold they whent through more then a usual amount of effort and more likely held its contents as something sacred.
