I'm interested in joining Freemasonry but I'm still not entirely sure. I have a few questions that I'd like opinions on if that's ok. I'll keep all my questions to one thread to sae clogging up the boards. Anyway my most pressing questions are:
If someone is interested in joining but does not know any Freemasons, how do they know which Lode to apply to? I live in an area where there are a huge number of active Lodges. Is it just a matter of picking a Lodge that meets at a convenient time each month?
A lot of the Freemason sites I've read use the phrase "Making Good Men Better". What constitutes a "good man"? Surely it is not just someone who has no criminal record?
How can a man be sure they are joining for the right reasons?

Is it just a matter of picking a Lodge that meets at a convenient time each month? It may depend on what's available in your area. If there are a number of Lodges, meet with them, get to know them, and them you. Frequently the differences between lodges can be significant in different ways; for example, there are different bodies of masonry, and in fact the members of this forum represent this diversity. See if there's a good rapport; it's good if you can establish a good connection with those that will mentor you. Becoming a Mason is more of a process.

There are several different answers to your question here my friend. If we knew a little more about you, it might be easier for the right person to help.
I will agree with my good friend Frere though. Finding a lodge that you have a common thread with will help you a lot. My mother lodge is heavy in law enforcement now, but used to be filled with railroad men.
