Hi Everyone!
I'm not sure if this post belongs here or the "Intro" threads, so I apologize in advance.
My name is Deanna and I've been interested in Masonry for quite some time. I would often pass by the temple in Philadelphia and it would catch my attention every time. I always found churches to be beautiful pieces of architecture, but for some reason, the temple seemed to invoke some awe and fascination. When I began searching what Freemasonry was all about, I was saddened that only males are permitted to join.
Since my uncle is a Mason, I spoke to him about the possibility of joining OES. For a while, I thought that this was the closest I would ever get. Thanks to the internet, I've learned about Co-Masonry. I feel that I've finally found my niche. OES sounds like a great organization, but it doesn't quite "call" to me like Freemasonry does.
It seems that the closest lodge is in NY, but I'm curious if there are any Co-Masons on this board who live in the PA/NJ/DE area?
I've been lurking on the boards for a while now, so it's about time I actually signed up. You sound like wonderful group of people. I look forward to getting to know all of you and learning as much as I can.

Deanna, I would be happy to help. Love and Light, Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've spoken to Ms. Menocal at the Honorable Order of American Co-Masonry and she said that their closest lodge is in New York. I know there are other mixed gender orders, and from reading about them, it seems that very few differences exist. Is that really the case? My goal is to find the lodge closest to me. I'm sure any commute would be worth it, but finding a local one would be a nice start. At the very least, I'd like to find members of any Co-Masonic order who are local to me.

Deanna, There are many differences. They can usually boil down to Dogmatic (requires a belief in a Sureme Being) and Adogmatic (does not,) Also political, who they do and do not "recognize." Adogmatic: Le Droit Humaine -American Federation The original. Headquartered in France. Very liberal in outlook and practice. Number of lodges in the USA seems to be in decline. www.comasonic.orgGeorge Washington Union Heavily French influenced. Number of lodges currently small but I have heard that they are growing. www.georgewashingtonunion.orgDogmatic: Hornorable Order of Co-Masonry AFHR Conservative in their outlook. Does not recognize the other Co-Masonic Orders in the USA. Currently quite large and growing. Le Droit Humaine splitoff. www.co-masonry.orgThe Eastern Order of Co-Freemasonry Conservative. Very small in the USA with only two lodges. They do have an internet lodge for people where no physical lodge is. You would have to travel for degree work. Le Droit Humaine split off. www.comasonic.netSovereign Sanctuary USA-Memphis-Misraim Liberal. Have both Co-Masonic and gender specific lodges. IMHO an excellent order. Lodges in the East Coast. May have one closer to you. www.memphis-misraim.usThen there is my lodge Lodge Napoleon Bonaparte. We are an independent lodge, adogmatic and liberal. We are building physical lodges in Atlanta, St.Paul, and Seattle but we have membership all over due to a strong virtual enviornment. You would have to do some traveling for degree work. We recognize all other Freemasons but we are unrecognized by most. www.lodgenapoleon.orgI hope this helps. Love and Light,

hi Deanna, welcome. i've spoken with the same people you have at American Co-Masonry and was impressed. i'm a member of the male Lodge but have been looking into Co-Masonry for a while now. i've also since met a member of the Lodge you are referring to in Queens and they were nothing but nice and had lovely things to say about their Order. there must be something nearby for you, or at least in your home state. i can't speak with experience about any of the Co-Masonic Orders out there but my own research has led me toward the AFHR, with whom you spoke, or LDH. both appear reputable, and seem to be the most accessible. good luck on your search!

Welcome Deanna... Yes, Brad has given quite a list. I know I have found my home in Masonry and am very glad of the choice.
I'm a bit prejudiced on the subject and totally agree with Generatics. LOL Hopefully I'll see you both in lodge some day.
Seeing as you already spoke to Rosario, I will offer you this. Though not to the lodge you are referencing, I do drive 200 miles to lodge.. It takes about 4 hours and is well worth it. There are others who travel further than I.
