Hi guys, I'm new here and I have contacted a secretary of a lodge in my community about joining. I haven't filled out any forms yet. After getting past all the negative stories and conspiracy theories, I decided masonry may be for me. Now the thing is, most Ive heard is that masonry is just a social club rather than what I thought it was : a mystery school teaching men to develop noble moral qualities, latent spiritual human abilities and teaching men spiritual truths not available to the profane. In other words, making good men better, but not just on a surface level which can be found in places like a church.
So? Can I find the above mentioned masonry (see thread title)? Or is this a secret not to be spoken of by initiates/members?

welcome to the forum.
My advice is to be 100% upfront with what you are looking for. The prospective lodge will let you know if they are on the same page.
Good Luck,

Are you saying that different lodges do different things (teaching)? I thought freemasonry was the same across the board. Hmmm.... This may be deeper than it comes across off the masonic websites and masonic forums. Ah ya yaii...

There are quite a few types of Freemasonry. Male-only such as UGLE and others in Amity with it e.g most of the Grand Lodges in the USA, those of Scotland and Ireland etc, Women-only Grand Lodges of which OWF and HFAF are two, and Co-Masonic Bodies such as my own LDH which has both men and women as members. Some such as mine are more into the Esoteric side, others such as UGLE are less so but more into Charitable and Social matters. If you could say where you live posters here may be better able to assist you.

Wow, such quick responses and advice. I live in the Caribbean. Yup, small isle man. I was really hoping freemasonry was more into esoteric and occult matters rather than some charitable society with secret modes of recognition. When i say esoteric and occult, I mean some serious spiritual, magikal, paranormal stuff. Oh, and the lodge I contacted is a Royal Arch Chapter approved by the UGLE. Secretary said he'll get back to me. I'm starting to get the impression that the irregular, clandestine etc etc lodges are the ones who have what I'm sorta seeking for, whilst the regular lodges are just social networking clubs. Am I way off?

People such as myself in Le Droit Humain,( LDH ) tend not to like expressions such as "irregular" or "clandestine" as all Grand Lodges etc are Regular within themselves. That apart I will give you the URLs both of LDH International and UGLE. Although the latter operates mostly within England it may have some Lodges in former British Colonies and its website will inform you of Lodges in Harmony with it. www.droit-humain.org/en_foreword.htmlwww.ugle.org.uk/

Also, if you contacted a Royal Arch Chapter, that wouldnt have anything to do with joining Masonry until after you had been initiated, passed and raised as the Royal Arch degrees and the workings they entail are only available to Master Masons.
