As a Hermetic Qabalist, it is not uncommon for me to encounter angelic beings . Per Crowley's advice in "Magick Without Tears" I have always had questions ready to posit to them in order to determine whether I had the "genuine article" or whether a "lying spirit' POSING as an angelic being was trying to deceive me.
So, when I encountered a being claiming to be "the Archangel Michael" while meditating on the Tree, I was READY.
Actually , "being' is not the term I want; once one is in the Yetziratic realm, "form" is preparing to give way to the realm of ideas, and so "form" of any kind is at its most tenuous; I could not really "see" a being, but of its presence there could be no doubt.
I indicated that I wished to ask a question; the being gave its assent. I then asked, "What can you tell me about the Talmudic legend of the "The 36 Righteous Men"?
Anyone who has studied their Qabalah will know that Michael is the Archangel of Hod, and, also, the "Angel" of Tiphareth. Tiphareth, being the Sphere of the Sun, is thereby connected to the "Planetary Square" of the Sun, which consists of the numbers 1 to 36 arranged in a square with 6 numbers to a side, those numbers adding up to 111, the number of the name of the Intelligence of the Sun, "Nakhiel". Thus the number 36 is indelibly associated with the Sun and Michael, being the Angel of the Sephirah ruling the Sun, would therefore be the "authority' who would know all there is to know about it, hence my question.
I was told that in order for my question to be fully answered, I would have to be "obligated", however, part of my question could be answered then and there. The legend of the 36 Righteous Men is much more ancient that the Talmud, it is in fact part of the ancient Osirian worship of ancient Egypt. In a nutshell, it is said that as long as there are 36 "Righteous" men extant on the face of the earth, God will not bring about "the end of the world". I received further confirmation of the "Osiris connection"when I subsequently discovered that Osiris had had 36 forms.
Osiris was considered the embodiment of "righteousness", and his worship was available to "everyman"; any man of "good report' could partake of his Mysteries. In fact, it could truly be said that the "Osireion" (the Temple of Osiris, dating back to 3000 years BEFORE Christ) was the FIRST "Masonic Lodge". It is a FACT that the ancient depictions of the Osirian "Hall of Judgement" bear a startling resemblance to a modern-day Masonic Lodge...and indeed, I DID find that modern-day Freemasonry is a LIVING REMNANT of the ancient worship of Osiris!
I was told straight out that the purpose of organizations like Freemasonry were in fact to ENSURE THE ONGOING SUPPLY OF "righteous men" and subsequent research confirmed this. I was told MUCH MORE about it, but of that I cannot speak; what I have said here will have to suffice. if anyone wants MORE infornation, they may wish to invoke the "Angel of the Sun" and ASK HIM YOURSELF.

With all due respect I would like to ask you, as a Brother Mason, how can you know that the information that you had received was accurate? You did mention that you received confirmation from other sources. "36." That is not an odd or rare number at all. Is there any chance that you may have just fell into the human mind's normal inclination to find order in any pattern or non-pattern as describe by gestalt psychology? Since you have spoken to the Angel of the Sun you should be able to at least explain the structure to me.

I belive I already pointed out that the number 36 is associated with the Sun via its "Planetary Square" ( and we know what significance "squares" have for Freemasons) and also, the Sun is the Planetary Power associated with Tiphareth on the Tree of Life. 36 is 6 multiplied by itself and 6 is the number of the Sephirah Tiphareth, known as the "Christ-Centre" of the Tree of Life, poised as it is in the centre of the Tree like a spider in its web,and receiving the emanations of six other Sephiroth.
It is difficult if not impossible to explain Qabalistic associations to a non-Qabalist, because it all seems like a lot of gibberish, like quantum physics sounds to the layman. Especially when it is all dismissed as 'the human mind's normal inclination..." True, not all patterns carry equal 'significance' but without the capacity to recognize them a very great deal would have gone unremarked, such as numerical patterns, f'r instance. Practically the whole of Western Esotericism is based on the Qabalah; and there is a LOT of Qabalah in Freemasonry; the Rite of the Holy Royal Arch is HEAVILY Qabalistic, f'r instance. If you are truly interested in finding out more, I recommend drawing up your own Tree of Life and commence a course of meditative study. That way YOU can ask the Angel of the Sun YOURSELF.

Or you can just explain it to me in a bit more clear terms. You are laboring under the assumption that I am not already involved and familiar with QBL (Hebrew and "Christian"). It appears to me, and please correct me if I am wrong - this method of communication is not always the best for conveying subtle meaning, that you claim to be enlightened and have come here to correct the unknowing? If this is true could you understand that some would see this as rather presumptuous?

Please allow me to add, I do not intend to appear confrontational. I am of the opinion that forums such as this one are meant for the exchange of information and inquiry. That is what I am attempting to do. Just Brethren growing together.

If this is true could you understand that some would see this as rather presumptuous? I am not claiming to be "anything"; I merely wanted to pass on the story of the "36 Righteous Men" so that Freemasons everywhere could know this story about the ancient "mandate" behiond all mystical Orders, and if they wished to investigate further, the lines of inquiry that they could follow. There is nothing at all "special" about me or about anything I have done; I merely pursued a line of inquiry that opened up to me. The "Names of Power" are out there and are available to all; anyone who wishes to invoke the Angels and Archangels themselves can do so. I only wished to recount a particular experience of mine that I thought would be of interest to Freemasons. And, if you are already involved with Qabalah then WHY do I have to explain anything to you about the number 36? You should have ALREADY known about its significance, if so! Here's ANOTHER Qabalistic/Gematria tidbit: 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 ; the numerical value of "Geburah". Also, the number 666 is that of "Sorath", the Spirit of the Sun.

There isn't anything special about me either Brother. Your experience is interesting to me and I only wish to know more about it.
We could discuss the warping that occured when the Hebrew kabbalah was changed to fit a Christian world, or a Hermetic world. The Hebrew QBL was meant to be understood within the context of the Jewish faith. Not my opinion, it is the opinion of the Rabbe that I studied with.

That's the opinion of a rabbi, and he is entitled to it. However, nothing is static; everything evolves, and the TOL is NO exception.. The HERMETIC Qabalah works just FINE, without all the religious accretions and all the male-chauvinist-piggery that is so much a part of Judaeo-Christianity. In fact, you would be ASTOUNDED at the number of things that make NO sense in Judaism, that suddenly make a LOT of sense when they are seen from the-horrors!- FEMININE viewpoint, i.e. f'r instance that business about God "making a space within himself in order to create the worlds"...gee, that sounds an AWFUL LOT like "PREGNANCY" to ME. Also, "Melchizedek" maybe you've heard of "him"? Funny how the title "Malkah ha-Tzedek" (QUEEN of Righteousness) has the SAME numerical value as "God of Abraham"! D'ye think a little "sex-changing" took place somewhere? I don't doubt THAT is why ol "Melchizedek" had no antecedents! But hey, women may get to LISTEN IN to Qabalah these days, but they are STILL expected to sit down and SHUT UP, and Gawd help them if they have a single thought of their own! That's what's good about getting one's data from the angelic beings; one bypasses a LOT of mundane rubbish!

Why don't you ASK your rabbi about the legend of the "Lamed Vavniks"? ("Lamed Vav" is Hebrew for "36") It's in the Talmud, after all!

I don't study with him any longer. There is also the point that he did not come onto this forum proclaiming special knowledge from angels. I am just asking for clarification.

So what, precisely, do you need clarified? I have already explained that the number 36 is associated with the Planetary Square of the Sun, and that Osiris, the prototype of the "Righteous King", had 36 forms.
It is also said that a prophet is sent out in every generation to seek out the 36 Righteous Men. according to Crowley, a "generation" is 33 years. It was also indicated to me by the Angel that the Knights Templar were very closely connected with this legend, and that the reason the Temple fell all those centuries ago in France (and, inexplicably, gave up with barely a struggle), was because the sin of the Jerusalem Massacre had to be ATONED FOR. It is a peculiar fact that in the first week after that fateful day back in October of 1307, THIRTY SIX Knights died at the hands of the French authorities.
I can also say that for a while, I was seeing the number 36 EVERYWHERE. Here's an odd fact: in the first Harry Potter movie, I was totally startled when Harry's nasty sibling stands nose to nose with him and SCREAMS "THIRTY-SIX!" straight into Harry's face! Another odd fact is that back in the mid-90s, I had the VERY SAME IDEA of writing a story about a "boy adept"...and thenalmost simultaneously, I heard about "Harry Potter"!
Also, notice the name "Harry ("Heru", or "Hoor-Re", the SON [sic] of Osiris) and "Potter' which could either be a reference to the ram headed aspect of the Egyptian Sun God known as "Khnum", who is depicted as modeling human figures on a POTTER's wheel, or it could be a reference to "pater", as in "Hoor-Re Pater", as in "father of Hoor-Re", i.e. OSIRIS. Sounds silly, doesn't it? But I have been totally ASTONISHED by the amount of archetypal material I have spotted in movies and television programs!
I don't even watch TV or movies; all this archetypal stuff I have seen has been picked up peripherally by "listening in" on programs or movies being watched by my TV-watching partner. Good thing I know about Jung and his theories of archetypes or I would have become quite upset at the creepy way movies and TV programs were CONSTANTLY echoing the themes of various meditations I was having on the 36 Righteous!!

Jeez Louise, vaj! Calm the hell down Remember what happened with Shabtai Zevi: you can get carried away with the Kabbalah. After Zevi, they stopped teaching it to young men entirely, it was hotting up their blood too much. Me, I'm mighty suspicious of supernatural beings telling me stuff that confirms what I already believe. I'd be inclined to think it was maybe my Inner Self telling me all this. 'Course, who listens when it's just his own self telling him stuff? Much more impressive when the Inner Self appears as a big angelic dude. 'S all I'm saying.

Ursula K. Le Guin had the idea for a 'boy adept' some decades before Harry Potter arose, and even Ursula doesn't have the claim to the idea. As much as I admire Rowling, Harry Potter is not new. I recommend watching THE NUMBER 23.

Jeez Louise, vaj! Calm the hell down Now now, don't get excited! it's just a FORUM, after all. Remember what happened with Shabtai Zevi: you can get carried away with the Kabbalah. After Zevi, they stopped teaching it to young men entirely, it was hotting up their blood too much. You are talking about Jewish "Kabbalah". I am talking HERMETIC Qabalah. BTW, Kabbalah is normally not taught to anyone under the age of 40. At the time I am speaking of, I was in fact about that age.Me, I'm mighty suspicious of supernatural beings telling me stuff that confirms what I already believe. I'd be inclined to think it was maybe my Inner Self telling me all this. 'Course, who listens when it's just his own self telling him stuff? Much more impressive when the Inner Self appears as a big angelic dude. 'S all I'm saying. I did not, nor have I ever seen anything resembling 'a big angelic dude". In fact I never see "them". Seeing "images" of angels means you are on the LOWER ASTRAL LEVELS. Once one rises to Briah, there is nothing to "see". There is only an impression of "presence" on one's awareness. It is also impossible for "lying spirits" to reach the level of Briah, because it is the "angelic realm".
And they" did not "tell me what I already believe"; they told me "what was to come"- and it DID. "They" also told me stuff I did not know at all, (like the stuff about Freemasonry) but which I was later to confirm in full as accurate and "on the level". I was intrigued to find out, years later, from reading Idries Shah, that this method of receiving "direct knowledge" is part of "Sufi" methodology and that Freemasonry itself has its roots in"Sufi"

Again rembrandt your unable to focus beyond your own personal goals. I believe vaj has more then described the experience to you, and in more detail then was needed. If you wish to uncover mental health issues I might suggest a site under those pretenses. From a non-bias side I was able to see Harry Potter was only brought up because there was a scene that mentions 36 appearently random. As weve discussed before brandt your will and focus will guide your growth, wich means its up to you how you see it. As somewhat of a writer I know how easy it is to put in secretive or coded messages. Sometimes you just get bored writing out the events as youve allready seen it and rough drafted, and want to make it allil exciting personaly. I have really enjoyed reading about your posts vaj I think I found my study for the day HAHA.

The Tzadikim Nistarim (Hebrew: öÇãÄé÷Äéí ðÄñúÈÌøéíý, hidden righteous ones) or Lamed Vav Tzadikim (Hebrew: ì"å öÇãÄé÷Äéíý, 36 righteous ones), often abbreviated to Lamed Vav(niks), refers to 36 Righteous people, a notion rooted within the more mystical dimensions of Judaism. The singular form is Tzadik Nistar (Hebrew: öÇãÄé÷ ðÄñúÈøý). As a mystical concept, the number 36 is even more intriguing. It is said that at all times there are 36 special people in the world, and that were it not for them, all of them, if even one of them was missing, the world would come to an end. The two Hebrew letters for 36 are the lamed, which is 30, and the vav, which is six. Therefore, these 36 are referred to as the Lamed-Vav Tzadikim. This widely-held belief, this most unusual Jewish concept is based on a Talmudic statement to the effect that in every generation 36 righteous "greet the Shechinah," the Divine Presence (Tractate Sanhedrin 97b; Tractate Sukkah 45b).[1] Mystical Hasidic Judaism as well as other segments of Judaism believe that there is the Jewish tradition of 36 righteous people whose role in life is to justify the purpose of humankind in the eyes of God. Tradition holds that their identities are unknown to each other and that, if one of them comes to a realization of their true purpose then they may die and their role is immediately assumed by another person:
The Lamed-Vav Tzaddikim are also called the Nistarim ("concealed ones"). In our folk tales, they emerge from their self-imposed concealment and, by the mystic powers, which they possess, they succeed in averting the threatened disasters of a people persecuted by the enemies that surround them. They return to their anonymity as soon as their task is accomplished, 'concealing' themselves once again in a Jewish community wherein they are relatively unknown. The lamed-vavniks, scattered as they are throughout the Diaspora, have no acquaintance with one another. On very rare occasions, one of them is 'discovered' by accident, in which case the secret of their identity must not be disclosed. The lamed-vavniks do not themselves know that they are ones of the 36. In fact, tradition has it that should a person claim to be one of the 36, that is proof positive that they are certainly not one. Since the 36 are each exemplars of anavah, ("humility"), having such a virtue would preclude against one’s self-proclamation of being among the special righteous. The 36 are simply too humble to believe that they are one of the 36.[1] This is just the wikipedia descriptions, but captivating nonetheless. I find it interesting that the vav (6) would suggest a type of foreman, having 6 people to a team with a leader(5X6=30 (+6=36).
