..in fact, I myself am in possession of my grandfather's aprons and his "Past Master" jewel. It is of 18 kt. gold and is engraved on the back with a commemoration of the Lodge's 50th anniversary in 1958. In fact, I would like to remark that it is a fact thar the founder of "Templarhistory dot com", whose name escapes me, is a member of that very same Lodge, the one that my grandfather belonged to (although I hear the Lodges of Edmonton are all amalgamated now)
My grandfather was very proud to be a Freemason, my mother told me, and I understand he carried on an extended correspondence with Freemasons all over the world; in fact I daresay the older Brethren of the Edmonton Lodges might remember Brother and PM George H. C. back in the Fifties...he was a retired Mountie, and a former magistrate...I have pictures of him sitting in court in his black robes, looking stern and magisterial...and on the back of the photo he had written to has daughter "Twenty-five dollars or ten days!"
I did not get interested in Freemasonry until I read "The Hiram Key" in late 2000. That book galvanized my interest like nothing had before or since...it was then I decided to explore the family's "Masonic history". So I called my mother and simply asked her what about it...She did not seem at all fazed by my request; she simply told me she "still had Grandpa's aprons" I was flabbergasted; she must have treasured them because they had not been swept away in the flood that devastated a large part of the family archives stored in the basement a number of years previously.
I bade her send them to me and she did, along with the Jewel aforementioned.. It was a very powerful experience to read my beloved Grandpa's Masonic history written underneath the flap of his apron...
