I do not believe there is any restriction in the UK.
However on the point of symbolism it would seem inappropriate for the both points of a compass to be displayed by an FC or EA. The EA and FC pay the same fees as the MM so is it right to restrict them ? The ritual books they are given will carry the Sq and Compass ?
But in real terms I do not think there would be any objection in the UK.

If you put the ring on wrong you become an anti-Mason and contact with a Mason would annihilate the universe. Kind of like mixing pasta and antepasto.
Seriously though, the ring don't matter much. Where it however you are comfortable with.

No ring for me, seems like an indulgent trophy.

I can only speak for Freemasons of Tennessee, but only a MM can display any Masonic symbols. If you buy a ring, you give it to the lodge at your raising, they then present it to you at the end. (this is how it was at my lodge, maybe not the same for the entire state) No ring for me, seems like an indulgent trophy. What about your wedding ring? <------(sarcasm)
