Does anyone have anything on lodges that met onboard Men-of-War, Naval Warships, Merchant ships, Ferries, Paddle Steamers etc. I have put pen to paper and have written, with the asssistance of a brother from Hong Kong, a history of this topic. I have also delivered a lecture on this topic to a Lodge in London recently. Can forum members assist and provide additional information on this special aspect of Military Lodges, the latter possessed Ambulatory or Travelling Warrants. I know of three lodges that possess these types of warrants, which meet today: St Patrick's 295 (IC) Glittering Star 322 (IC) St David's 903 (IC) But I am interested in anything Ship or sea related, yes even at anchor or moored in harbour or port will do! Many thanks Proton

Proton, This subject was recently raised on another forum, and the conclusion would seem to be that though there are meetings of Freemasons on board ships - mainly cruise ships - these meetings are not tiled and are more of a 'friendly get together'.
However one poster (D Welsh) did come up with the following: ------------------- ""Bro. R. F. Gould's exhaustive "History of Freemasonry" lists only three "Lodges" in the RN - One on board HMS Vanguard, #253 E in 1760, one on board HMS Prince, #279 E in 1762 and one on board HMS Canceaux at Quebec, #224 E in 1762.
To the best of my knowledge, no record of "warrants" or "Charters" issued to shipboard Lodges by any regular Grand Lodge has yet surfaced."" ----------------------------------- It is possible that a more general enquiry to the different Grand Lodges might turn up an active warrant .

Thanks for the detail Michael, I have got all those ships listed including Guadaloupe and Bedford, which also have lodges meet onboard, or adjacent to. I call these warranted, as meetings were held on or adjacent to these ships and evidence exists to this effect. I have also uncovered other interesting themes, LOIs!, The Hawkins LOI and the China Fleet LOI! Masonic Banquets, Funerals and acts of chivalry. So the list is growing! I am aware that another constitution doses have a lodge warranted to meet onboard a ship, Merchant, Ferry, Cargo, or whatever. Proton
