I was just chatting on another forum and I wondered what the thought were generally on holding White Table meetings. And what Criteria should be adopted. Many times I have been asked, ' it would be great to come along to one of your meetings , but my Order is not recognised by UGLE. The visitor could not attend the stated meeting, but I believe would be most welcome at the Festive Board which could play a larger role. Well , a White Table means you can invite everyone, so would there be a problem with say Co Masons attending a UGLE White Table. Or maybe Jeff Peace could fly over and buy me that pint he always promised. It would be interesting to get other opinions ................. Bill, they are always a good idea, as long as they are well organised. ;D

Tamrin, Philip, I have locked horns with many over the years, some will like me some will loath me. Such is life - I would not want a friend who I had to lie to to make them so. Arguing a point works both ways, you say Charlie is stupid, my job here, is to say sorry you should not say that. Have I ever backed down from discussing anything with you. You mentioned Steve, now if Steve can put up with me for the sake of the Forum, or to benefit the forum, I am sure he can put up with you and you him. There is no abuse here against Feminine and Co Masonry. But there will be no harassing of anyone else either. This forum like it or not is in the entertainment business. It needs to be of interest to all, not just those who want to put over one single point, so if any poster has a campaign to conduct that shows the forum as uneven , unreasonable or unfair the Mods must try to keep the balance. Now Philip, stop being a plonker and get back to what you do best and create some interesting threads. Lets call the complaints about Mods a draw. Blimey, I haven't been on here in ages!!!! Well said Bill. It's good to have a healthy debate and discussions on all topics. But at the end of the day you have to draw a line when things go to far. The moderators are here to see fair play.

Dear Cosmic You have answered your own question. "George Washington was born into a world in which slavery was accepted." This doesn't mean the practice isn't reprehensible it is simply the state of a particular society at a point in time. The British colonial war to keep Hong Kong was due to the valuable docking and trade routes for the laudenum trade (opium/herion). This was legal at the time. Also, Freemasonry didn't own slaves, George Washington owned slaves. You could as easily say poker players owned slaves, cyclists owned slaves, trumpet players owned slaves. it sounds ludicrous when put in context. Freemasonry when all is said and done is a passtime, a hobby. And as with any hobby can be taken to various levels of involvement. As Freemasons we are bound to adhere to the laws of the land and our own moral compass. If it is not illegal and we are brought up to believe something is natural and true (no matter how misguided) then it takes a strong will recognise and change public opinion. what are your thoughts on owning animals? Should we be allowed to own a living being for our own gain? this was the same question asked before the abolition of slavery and to many the same moral dilema was faced. We are not responsible for the sins of our elders, we can however try to change things for the better for our children. I think the above comment sums it up nicely.Every country is different in it's views regading Freemasonry. You are looking to deep for something thats not there. And i'm sure that the Southern states of America are different to the rest of the country ;D

Matty I have to agree with Leo, most of the posts you have made here are negative, if you are finding so much of your experience negative why do you remain a member? I'm a Secretary for one of my craft Lodges, and Scribe E (Secretary) in Chapter. It can be difficult when first taking over, but it is a nice job once you get into it, and there is software that you can purchase which will be a great asset if you purchase it, it's called, The Lodge Secretary. This has been a great asset to me. It saves you so much time. The reason i have used Penfolds quote, is i feel that this can be the type of comment that puts people off from remaining in Freemasonry. Matt has made a comment about the Secretarys role, and a more positive response would have been more appropriate. We need to encourage the bretheren and make it more fun and enjoyable, not start to question why we are still members. No wonder lodges are struggling to keep members!! Regards Mike.

I'm hoping that someone some where will be able to help. I am a member of the Royal Albert Edward Chapter 1362 in Surrey. About 6 years ago our Scribe E received a call from a mason in the midlands who dealt in masonic articles. He said that he had purchased the founding Z jewel for our chapter, and did we want to purchase it so of course we said yes. It's a great jewel and being over 100 yeras old in good condtion. This got me thinking about the H & J jewells, and guess what i was looking around our masonic hall when low and behold in a presentation case was our Founding J jewel so we now have that jewel with us.
Can all of you that purchase or have an interest in masonic articles keep a look out for The H founding jewel for the Royal Albert Edward Chapter 1362 , could you ask others as well. If you do come across this jewel can you please let me know as this would be fantastic to have all 3 jewels with the chapter, many thanks, Mike.

Staffs, it's a shame these Jewels have not been snapped up by the individual lodges but at least you are buying a couple to keep them in the masonic fraternity. ;D ;D

Years ago lodges were associated with various industries, trades, or profesions. My mother lodge meets on a Wednesday as it was formed mainly of shopkeepers and wednesday was half day closing. Another lodge i belong to was made up of Bank Managers, dentists, Doctors, Lawyers, etc. There are military lodges, and school lodges. Look to see what day would suit you, some like Taylorsman meet on Saturdays, for me that would clash with sport and driving the kids around to various clubs. There is so much to Freemasonry, History, friendship, research, sport, etc, etc,. You get out of it what you put into it. There are also various other orders that you can join when you start to gain knowledge.

I have just been given a book to read by my friend who has had it passed down by his Father, the full title being History of The Lodge Of Edinburgh (Marys Chapel)No1 By David Murray Lyon, who was the Secretary to the Grand Lodge of Scotland. This book was first published in 1900 but it appears it may have been published prior to the date in this book(1870) and i have just started to read it, i will give more of an insight as i start to read through it.

Football has always been very physical game, re Chopper Harris, norman bites your legs, etc, & rugby has been a pint & a punch up game, re the British Lions in the 70's when at the end of the game against the Sprinkboks, i think, each lion on the call of the captain punched the nearest sprinkbok to them.....Fact. Footballers now adays, are over paid faireys.

Thanks for your words of wisdom guys, I greatly value your comments. After I'd declined the offer of a speedy raising last night, one of the PMs said "Why not? Once you're raised you can be involved in everything." A little later another commented that someone (who is good at memorising ritual) like me, once raised, will be "dragged into everything". Makes me think that the improvement of our Lodge's ritual-delivery firepower is not the least of their reasons for wanting to raise me, and this is a big temptation too. I love ritual, and seeing it done poorly saddens me. A lot. Tony Bro Tony regarding your comment about ritual, every brother is different, and some can learn quicker than others , others might struggle more than others, but all brothers do try and give it a go, what in your eyes appears to be POOR! might in others be their best shot. We all put the time in to deliver ritual, as long as it comes from the heart, and the Bro has tried his best then that should be good enough for all. Ps i hope in time you don't become one of the TUT TUT Brigade, regards Mike
