Hi Bill et al. The 'point within the Circle' is quite clearly an integral part of the third degree. That's true, Bill, but other posters are correct that it is first met in the First Degree as part of the Lectures (Sixth Section of the Lecture in the First Degree) and in the explanation of the First Tracing Board (which is a concatenation of extracts from our Lectures). It is then met again in the Third. For the benefit of readers from other jurisdictions, note that in UGLE rituals, the Third Degree references to the point within the circle are part of the compulsory work which every member sees, whereas the First Degree references are in optional work which many members rarely (or maybe never) see in use, although it's in the book. If you support the theorum you are saying that the Devils Bible represents the symbolism of the Baphomet which is included in the first degree of Freemasonry. At which point we meet on the field of intellectual battle. I will not stand by and see this theory put forward without challenge. I'm with you on this one, Bill. That would be an utterly unacceptable interpretation. T & F, Huw

Hi Steve. I assume that the Copyright vests in the Governing Body of that Degree or in some cases in an Organisation such as the Taylors Association or the Emulation Lodge of Improvement? As such would the Laws on Intelectual Property apply to them? This is a long time after the question was posted, but for the record: it varies. Copyright of some of the English Workings lies with the custodians of that Working (e.g. the Emulation book is copyright Emulation Lodge of Improvement), but in some other cases the copyright has been bought by the publisher (e.g. the Taylors book is copyright Lewis). Yes, intellectual property law certainly applies, same as other copyright material. So for those who might be tempted to download "free" copies which are (so I'm told) available some places on the 'net, please inform your conscience that such downloads are illegal pirated copies. (Declaration of interest: I am one of the copyright-holders of Emulation, although I get no financial benefit from it.) H.G.W., Huw

Hi kt. I am also looking for ritual books - West End Ritual for both EAs & FC's (only). Can't seem to source these anywhere. Help! I could be wrong about this, but so far as I'm aware, the West End ritual has never been published in EA-only or FC-only form. It's not a hugely widely-used Working, so there's probably not enough demand for it to be worth the publisher's while to produce separate EA and FC versions. H.G.W., Huw

Greetings, fractal. LDH allows acceptance of those who don't believe in a supreme being, I do wish this would change this one thing. But thats my opionion. As I understand it, that is changeable by each national federation, except insofaras you'd still have to accept visitors (from elsewhere in LDH) who are unbelievers. Of course it may take you a while before you're in charge and can do something about it! (But maybe I'm misunderstanding LDH rules, in which case no doubt someone will correct me.)

Hi cvinck22.
I can't say anything specific about Miami, sorry, but I can offer a couple of points in general.
If you're looking for a women-only organisation, then I'm afraid you're likely to be out of luck. The women-only organisations aren't strong in the US and might have no unit in your area, and anyway I wouldn't recommend the women-only organisations which exist in the US.
If you're looking for a mixed-sex organisation, then there are several options of varying respectablility (in my opinion, but for reasons which I'd rather not discuss). I recommend contacting AmFed through their site (http://www.co-masonry.org) and asking if they have a unit near you, my impression in conversation with some of them is that they're sincere and serious. There's a reasonable chance that they'll have something somewhere in southern Florida, they're fairly widespread.
That's about all I can suggest from thousands of miles away, I hope it helps.
Good luck,
Huw

Thanks again, whistler.
Perceived threats to traditional practices are indeed likely to cause trouble. It's a simple truth which usually comes as no surprise to anyone except the partisans of change.

I see Steve's "Chequered Pavement" forum has suddenly gone off-line.
Does Steve still show up in here? What happened to Chequered Pavement? Is all well?

Ah. Thank you, whistler.
I get the impression that the Eastern Order has done fairly well these last few years, attracting affiliation from some of those who have been dissatisfied elsewhere, but I don't know a great deal about it. What is the distinguishing characteristic which attracts people to the Eastern Order?

Oh? To what have Memphis Lodge switched affiliation? Another well-known body, or some new start-up organisation?
