This may be of interest to Brethren. I was e-mailed this by a Brother in Civic Lodge 5223.
I give my total support to the Grand Charities on this action.
"Any Brethren wishing to make a donation for relief work for the Indian Ocean Tsunamis disaster via the Grand Charity can do so by simply making a cheque payable to the Grand Charity and sending it to their offices at 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ. Please send the cheque with a covering letter stating that the cheque is to be paid into the Asian Tsunamis 2004 Floods Relief Chest No. E0091
Thank you.
Laura Chapman Chief Executive, The Grand Charity
I thought the members might like to know that the Grand Charity has already sent £100,000 to the Red Cross on behalf of all masons in the UGLE. This is an initial amount and may be increased as necessary, particularly for our Districts affected by the tragedy. Best wishes for the New Year Fraternally Spenny Northampton Pro Grand Master

Here is the e mail i received with reference to the Disaster: Steve sorry if this overlaps your post but this has a few differences
Emergency Grant From The Grand Charity Yesterday Raymond Lye, the President of the Grand Charity, authorised an emergency donation of £100,000.00 to the British Red Cross Appeal for aid to victims of the tsunami disaster which has wreaked havoc on coastal communities around the Indian Ocean That amount is the upper limit of his authority as President but he will be meeting shortly with members of the Council of the Grand Charity and fully expects to receive authority to make a more substantial donation or donations We can all help Any Lodges, Chapters or individual Brethren wishing to make a donation for relief work for the Indian Ocean Tsunamis disaster via the Grand Charity can do so by simply making a cheque payable to the Grand Charity and sending it to their offices The Grand Charity, 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ Please send the cheque with a covering letter stating that the cheque is to be paid into the Asian Tsunamis 2004 Floods Relief Chest No. E0091 THANK YOU

It's interesting, being the lodge charity steward and reading the comments on here. There are four main masonic charities, and these charities do support non-masonic charities, EG: Rainbow trust, chace, childrens hospices, etc. Part of your annual subs that go to Province and Grand Lodge, do go to these four charities, and my lodge does show this in the lodge returns, and charity donations. Saying that, we do support local needy charities and will continue to do so, EG; The village church roof, Nspcc, the local hospitals, etc, regards Mike. ;D

in Australia there is a movement for each lodge to supply a "rotary Club shelter box" . The shelterbox trust is organised by the Helston-Lizard Rotary club in the U.K. Each box contains :- a 10 man tent ,spade ,torch, ropes, first aid kit,10 ground sheets, 10 sleeping bags, cooking utensils + eating utensils and water purification tablets for 10 people for 12 months. Each box costs A$1100.Perhaps a similar thing could be started in the U.K. ,U.S.A. or any other lodges Think what a great advertisement for Freemasonry. sarge
