I came across this as I was doing research on French Freemasonry. It's about "summing up" a mason's duty in one senence. I'd be interested in any opinions.
"In the lectures of the French Lodges the whole duty of a Mason is summed up in this one brief sentence:
"Aimez-vous les uns les autres, instruisez-vous, secourez-vous, voilà tout noire livre, toute noire loi, toule noire science."
"Love one another, teach one another, help one another. That is all our doctrine, all our science, all our law." "

"Love one another, teach one another, help one another. That is all our doctrine, all our science, all our law."
Perhaps we ought to have this inscribed above the Door of our Lodges and embossed on our Ritual Books covers etc?

Buddhism, I'm led to believe, can be summed up with "If you can't do someone a good turn, at least don't do them a bad one." Steve, "Perhaps we ought to have this inscribed above the Door of our Lodges and embossed on our Ritual Books covers etc?" In many respects one could alway start applying it to oneself initially and take it from there. Good point though.

I prefer "To look for the light, to see the Light, to follow the Light" It is playing with words, to personalise the French one I should Love, I should teach, I should help. It doesn't say I should learn.

It doesn't say you should clean your teeth everyday either, but I guess thats something you do! I think it is a good phrase, and demonstrates the differences in theology between the continental approach to freemasonry and the UGLE way, not saying one is better or worse or anything like that, just saying they are different.
