While the Belgian Tarot deck on that site was quite interesting, no-one seems to have got to grips with the cards' potential as a whole-system Masonic teaching aid.
A handsome set of Masonic Tarot or playing cards, either the full 78 or the 52 card poker deck with which we are more familiar in gaming, would surely be a prized collectible.

Greetings jmd, Thanks for the URL below. One of the best works on the subject of the Tarot is from a Russian Brother. "Meditations on the Tarot" A Journey into Christian Hermeticism. Anonymous. His name and place of birth were made public in the introduction of the German translation of the book. The Marseilles deck of cards are used. association.tarotstudies.org/news5.htmlI have a facsimile copy of the early Marseilles deck, and regarding the Templars (OSMTH) they have their own set of cards. Regards, Sid P.S. a bit old this thread The tracing boards Frieda Harris painted for her Co-Masonic Lodge are indeed strikingly beautiful, and reflect wonderfully the Anthroposophically-based projective geometry she worked on with Olive Whicher - I once included an interview written by Claas Hoffmann in a past Tarot Newsletter (No 15 - March 2004). Prints of these Tracing Boards occasionally come up for sale, by the way.

Thanks for reviving an old but interesting thread. The Marseilles deck of cards are used. association.tarotstudies.org/news5.htmlI have a facsimile copy of the early Marseilles deck, and regarding the Templars (OSMTH) they have their own set of cards. The complete Marseilles deck can be found here. Is the "early" version different from the cards shown on that page?

Greetings Ingo & forum, Ref.: "Aleister Crowley and Freemasonry" freemasonry.bcy.ca/texts/AleisterCrowley.htmlI am afraid, that Aleister Crowley was initiated, passed and raised in a lodge, which is now part of the Grand Loge Nationale Francaise in 1904. This is a Masonic Research Lodge website "Quatuor Coronati". freemasonry.bcy.ca/textfiles/famous.htmlA great website full of all sorts of interesting information. Regards, Sid

My copy has the letters V.T. on the front of the chariot between the 2 horses. The card that is on the site linked above has the letters SM on the front of the chariot. I don't know why.

Hi Staffs, JMD can you give us an example of this ?? Masonry and Astrology are most definitely linked and in our temple you only have to look up at the canopy to see all the signs of the Zodiac .So is there a link between Astrology and masonry and Tarot ? im not sure JMD i kmow you wil revel in this . ------------- The artist JOHFRA was a contract painter for Masonic art work, and he is probably best known for his 12 paintings of the signs of the zodiac, which also has some symbols of the tarot, and Masonic symbols etc., on them. Do a search under 'images' with his name. Sid

Freemasonry contains threads of ancient wisdom. that thread has knots, but the thread that enters the knot is still the same thread that comes out the other side Maybe one knot is Tarot and another Freemasonry etc.... Iif we decide Tarot and Freemasonry are linked can we for simplicity find one Tarot symbol in modern freemasonry, and then trace it back, how far back can we go ? Greetings this message is in response to the statement that you made wherein you said can we for simplicity find one Tarot symbol in modern Masonry. My answer to that question is yes now before I go any further I would like to say that the Tarot that I use is the Rider -Waite deck. To begin with the zero card The Fool ,on his clothing is found the alchemical symbol for fire, this symbol is also found in the 27th° of the Scottish Rite the (Knight of the Sun degree). The justice key of the major arcana he sits between two pillars and he holds a pair of scales, The scales are found in the 7th° Of the Scottish Rite (Provost and judge). The hermit he has a six point star in the lamp, which symbol appears in the 14th 12/26 and 27th° of the Scottish Rite. The strength key a infinity symbol is featured over the woman's head which symbol appears and the 27th° of the Scottish Rite it is the symbol of infinity, this infinity symbol is also featured tied into the ropes that surround many Masonic Tracing Boards, not to mention the woman is featured holding the jaws of a lion closed, any brother who has been raised to the 3rd° Understands the symbolism of the lion. The high priestess key goes without saying. The hanged man key is an allusion to the cross on top of a triangle which symbol is featured in the 18 degree of the Scottish Rite.. The same infinity symbol is found in the magician key. The moon key features 15 Hebrew letter yod's it also features a stream of water which is found in the emu of 9° of the Scottish Rite, The sun and the moon and two pillars are also found on this key. On the temperance key the point within the circle is found on the angels forhead, his chest YHWH is found abouve of a triangle within a square. So as can be seen these cards are full of Masonic symbolism and what I've mentioned is just breaking the ice. Brother CC Zane and his book "Ancient Masonry"correlates every Tarot card of the major arcana to the several degrees of Freemasonry. Also remember the 22 major arcana cards correlate to the 22 paths of the Cabala, and Albert Pike himself said that an understanding of masonry is impossible without and elementary understanding of Kabbalah.

I saw a new Masonic Tarot deck today which I believe is different from the ones that have been mentioned before. I hope this link works: Lo Scarabeo Masonic Tarot. That site only gives half-a-dozen sample cards. This blurb might help you find more information. From the few images I have seen (5 or 6, so certainly unfair) I don't really like them. Sometimes these decks remind me metaphorically of a Freemason going on holiday with a small case. He has packed all the essential things and there is some room left. So he stuffs in an apron, then a collar, then a star of David, then a square and compasses, then an ear of corn until finally the case is totally packed. I am slightly wary of the phrase in the blurb,Is he a Freemason? That makes it sound like he is NOT.

I agree.
The cards shown seem superficial. For example in at least 2 cards he shows the compasses being held in a manner contrary to the inner function. Similarly for the card where the gavel is held.

The set of First, Second and Third Degree Tracing Boards represented on this page were the gift of Wor. Bro. Thomas D. Worrel to Mill Valley Lodge No. 356. They were printed in approximately 1975 and the dimensions of each print is 20ins x 14ins. The 1975 edition was the only prints made of the original paintings.narrativegraphics.com/millvalleymasons/lady-freida-harris.htmI liked the Second Degree board the most. Climbing steps to reach a centre within oneself.

Brethren who are familiar with Scottish Rite clearly have a big advantage in understanding these symbolic connections. Whereas Brethren from UGLE territories will struggle to keep up. How can we make this more understandable for UGLE-folk?

The Harris TB above has some uncomfortable energies and I note that she was a member of the Argenteum Astrum and apparently paid Crowley a "regular stipend"
