Back to the shape of the 'G' - could it be a sickle?
I have no knowledge of a degree that has a sickle in it, but if there is I am sure someone here will know.

My observation is that the "G" in lodges is often a bit mis-shapen.
Perhaps this is accidental or perhaps it is traditional.
Idries Shah tells us that the G is actually an Arabic Q - rotated through 90 deg for ease of hanging. This is easily confirmed and explains the odd shape.
The Arabic Q has value of 100. 99 names of God are known but the 100-th name is secret.
Thus the G is an arab representation of the lost secret (name) of a master mason.
This likely entered into Masonry after the Crusades.
Best wishes

And here was I thinking the 'g' stood for 'geometry' the science that underpins all.
