Hi all, Those who know me probably realise esotericism is something I'm a bit of a fence-sitter on. I don't buy it completely, but nor do I shirk it - like the agnostic I am. That's despite having encountered esoteric stuff for most of my life, and having an uncle who's an author on the subject. I did a rare thing yesterday and bought a Sunday Observer (if I buy a paper it's usually the Torygraph, since the Times went all Mirror on me), and noticed with interest an article in their Observer Magazine entitled Beyond Belief. It makes an interesting read. The cult database website it points you to is quite interesting, too. As it says - the groups that appear in it are not necessarily cults, because it includes groups that have simply attracted attention or controversy. It's also not comprehensive (I know of a cult in Perth, Western Australia, that's missing from it), but it's interesting nonetheless. For those who don't know me - please realise I'm not casting nasturtiums (as my grandmother used to say) at you. It's merely providing insight into "too much" of a good thing, and provides some balance.

Matt,
Very interesting stuff. A long read but well worth the effort. Makes one think.

... The cult database website it points you to is quite interesting, too. I was amazed to see that Ross has some video clips at his site and they are in .rm or .ram format. I thought that RealMedia was one of the worst cults around!
