I think that you must find the spiritual light within and then you can recognise it when you see it shining through the ritual (not too common).
Fortunately the EA TB gives you a very clear account of what you must do to be a genuine MM. The first point to note is that the so-called Jacob's Ladder is often represented by stairs. This is no accident. The stairs indicate to you that you must learn "rising on the planes" - a qabalistic exercise. It is a bit hard to find someone to teach you but inadequate versions are taught by some New Age groups. Then you must rise on the planes to the Star of Initiation that you see at the head of the "ladder". This star is the one from which the Widow Isis came - the Widow of whom we claim descent.
If you can do those two things you will have no trouble finding the Light concealed in Masonry.
Best wishes

The Inner Light by John Milton He that has light within his own clear breast May sit i' the center, and enjoy clear day: But he that hides a dark soul and foul thoughts Benighted walks under the midday sun; Himself is his own dungeon

Seekers of the "Light" might enjoy a book by Hermann Hesse called "Siddhartha"
This book, more than any other, (to date) has changed my outlook on EVERYTHING!
I still read it at least once every two weeks.
