This has been Brazenly Stolen by Whistler - It is too interesting to be left on a forum, that may pour ridicule upon it .
From Yucatan Temples to Stonehenge to Japanese Pagodas to Gothic Cathedrals to the Great Pyramid, it would seem that the following five ratios have proved very popular:
The Circle: Pi: 3.1416
Squaring the Circle: Square Root of Two: 1.414
Vesica Pisces: Square Root of Three: 1.732
Double Square: Square Root of Five: 2.236
Golden Section: Phi: 1.618. Phi also describes the ratio that multiple consecutive Fibonacci numbers tend to have toward each other...
I'm sure that most of us are also familiar with Nature's use of these ratios. But how many realise how prevalent they are in something as esoteric as market price movements? For example, very often successive growth and decay cycles in a market can be described by the square root of two. Kepler described this in 2 dimensions by squaring a circle and then using that square to draw a larger circle. Then, radius2 = radius1 * sqrt2. In 3 dimensions this can be described as a spiral. Fibonacci numbers are also very important to market analysts. But in order to spot these ratios we need to square price and time as advised by legendary commodities trader Bro. W.D. Gann. He studied grain trading records dating back to ancient Egypt and together with an understanding of the Law of Vibration he succeeded in making a fortune trading stocks and commodities in the early part of this century. Squaring price and time is relatively easy when one considers Pythagorus' simple theorem i.e. the hypotenuse of the right-angled triangle relating price and time is generally consistent for each individual market, rather like its signature. Modern day scientific but hypothetical string theory also uses Pythagorus' theorem. The simple relativistic relationship between speed and time also lies along the hypotenuse. The planets are also of course related by fixed ratio and pattern in their movements, as is the musical scale.
I would like to hear more from others about their experiences with these numbers and what they mean to them. I would most especially be interested to hear about the symbolic Masonic interpretations where applicable. As I'm a FellowCraft I would especially appreciate any links to any relevant papers.
