How are we planning to promote this forum. Maybe it would be unfair to promote it openly to the tfm.com. What do you think?

It is not a good idea to promote it on other forums and this would be totally disrepectful to those mods and its owners and there should in no way be any variance. All competition is good and why only post on one forum. If any one likes or has another preference than that is great,Their posts here will always be welcolme. This format may not be for some and one knows that in life you cant please everybody. With regards to promoting it then this is down to yourselves for the present time and in its infancy. If you like it then tell others to come here.If you can post a link somewhere suitable then do so.As i have said this forum is for you all to enjoy and as long as you continue to support it then long may it survive. Always remember though " we were taught to be cautious"
Addition 04/11/04 : links added to TLR and MOM by kind permission of Bill wo added his links here.

If you ask first there is no problem , most forums have aplace where you can post a link or ask for a link to be added. You can join my web ring if you like. That comes in on first page with some of the web searches for Masonry. I keep changing it , so dont be surprised if it changes colour regularly . Cant get it the way I want it. pub31.bravenet.com/sitering/show.php?usernum=2656731361

The best promotion is in the quality of posts and replies... Others will eventually see it

I have taken great pleasure in informing all my friends from "another place" and am delighted to see that quite a few have come over here. I wont be posting elsewhere myself but as has been said there is nothing to stop anyone posting to as many Fora as they wish.

Change of name so soon Staffs, why?
The new name makes it sound a bit like Sunderland FC's Stadium.
As to competition with other Fora, why not? We are always told that choice is a good thing, so let each Forum stand or fall on its merits.
This Forum gives Freedom of Speech and I would only expect the Moderators to intervene if any poster resorted to gross abuse and personalised insults of another, religious bigotry, racism , blasphemy or obscenity and I hope that these will not manifest themselves here. If any thread is not relevant I hope it will simply be moved without the heavy handed response that occurs elswhere and I trust that the words "Presto Locko" are erased from the language as far as this Forum is concerned.

As with the TFM and TLR forums (not sure about MoM), I expect that these posts are being spidered by search engines like Google, so simple searches there should - in time - bring up links to this forum. That's promotion in itself. After all, that's how I found out about TFM, TLR, MoM and a bunch of other Masonic resources.

It would be very nice if we could attract Masons from other parts of the world, South America, South Africa, India .. it is endless ... Maybe a few nnocent emails to the web master of Lodges in distant parts might work

Yes J Mom is just the same. best way to check out the search spiders is go do some searches.
Type in a variety of words masonic or discussion etc and you get the feel of which meta tags work. Slight variations make a difference with ab s on the end for example , discussions.
You will find one of the MoM or TLR sites on the first page of most searches.

It will be interesting to see the spiders picking it all up and how quick this happens. As stated this forum is not a web site but a free board we have utilised.
There IS a search facility using the magnifying glass at the top of each page in the header if required

OK
MoM and TLR forums are parts of a larger group of web sites. Including commercial sites.
I have an on line shop for UK Masonic Regalia, books , jewellery etc. All these web pages are designed to attract vivitors, they do not all end up as posters on the forums. but they do visit. Stephen has similar but in Canada which he covers the States also.
We have an average new membership signup of 4 to 5 a day. So it has taken a few years, but it is already well established. We started out at Bravenet , went to eZboards and now have our own servers and software for the forums.
If you and your members visit these two forums and just talk to the guys , they will visit here.
Think of it just the same as visiting other Lodges, if you sit back and just say here we are over here and never visit any other Lodges, how many guests will you have each meeting ?

Thats a new one on me Bill, thanks for that.
BTW - our network admins have added you to masonic defender to the banned list for some strange reason so I can't get to your forum from work. I hope they don't do it to all masonic stuff.
They are based in Amsterdam so I can't find out who and why - but I am trying.
