I've voted for 'spontaneous generation...'.
But I need to qualify.
It's interesting that you have seperated this option from 'chemical reaction'. It makes me wonder if you are thinking what I'm thinking.
I believe that, yes, life started as a chemical reaction which occured 'spontaneously' in a primeval soup. (Probably something like Tesco Value Scotch Broth. A more prime-evil soup I have no wish to encounter!)
However, I think the sponteneity (sp?) was innevitable. I believe that life preexisted the development of physical beings on this planet, and that the emergence of such physical beings is the innevitable result of the 'downward' progression from Kether to Malkuth, or however else you prefer to describe it.
So, in short, spontaneous, but designedly so, is my vote.

Interesting to contemplate - when I started setting up this Poll I had difficulty finding many options

This is a subject that I have spent many years considering, and I will confess to be struggling to complete the poll.
My own personal view of life is that we are all part of "God", we are what we are looking for. All of us, each and every thing, everywhere and all around.
As I also believe in reincarnation I see a distinction between "Stewart Edwards or Whistler" the individuals in incarnation at this time, and "Stewart Edwards or Whistler" as entities that reincarnate.
And on top of all this how did our physical bodies create? Well everything is made of the same basic elements, they are just put together in different combinations with different bonding structures. But again the intellegence behind this is Divine.
Perhaps the easiest box to complete would be for our Universe to be likened to a game, like the matrix, or a prison.
But at the physical, one incarnation level, I think that life from outer space, whether humanoid or virus like, has merits.

Whistler A couple of variations spring to mind: - humanoid worker cross-bred from gods and local hominid (see Epic of Gilgamesh and its derivative Genesis) - breeding project by multiple alien groups using reptilian genetics as a base but with each attempting to pull a swift one by making their genetic material dominant Cheers Russell
