You're really trying to your best to exclude me! Oh, well, I'll skip the drama and join the continent … Germany/Poland is the closest.

I have to admit that I would like to see the poll a bit more clearer. Why should England have a category on it's own but the Celts be lumped together and classed as decending from the British Isles. No soap box here just like to see it a bit more democratic

This poll should be corrected for the purposes of equal opportunities.

Now you are not going to tell me that the Celts set up their base at what was going to become Coventry centuries later?
Myself, Scots by birth but English (Home Counties) by adoption and assimilation. I am even investigating how to become a Freeman of the City of London as I understand this can be attained by donation?

There are several ways to apply for the Freedom: by servitude (for apprentices who have served a full apprenticeship to a freeman), by patrimony (for children of freemen - provided one parent was a freeman prior to the applicant's birth), by Nomination (see below) or by presentation by a Livery Company . New members of the City Livery Companies are generally encouraged by the Company to apply for the Freedom. The process of becoming a Freeman through a Livery Company is explained in full by the Clerk of the Company. Finally, persons who have been on the City of London Electoral Roll for a minimum of one year may obtain the Freedom without the need for an application visit or Common Council approval. There is no fee in such cases and applicants should advise that they are on the Ward List. Freedom by Nomination Persons of any nationality may apply for the Freedom by nomination. Forms are available from the Chamberlain's Court and the applicant must be nominated by two sponsors who will be Common Councilmen of the City of London, Aldermen or members of a Livery Company. The applicant then makes an appointment to attend the Chamberlain's Court for an 'application visit'. He or she would bring a number of documents supporting the application - to include a full birth certificate, the completed nomination form and the Freedom Fee which is known as a 'fine'. The current fine is £30. The application is then presented to the Court of Common Council (the Corporation of London's governing body) for approval, after which the applicant is advised in writing to contact the Court to arrange a date for the Freedom Ceremony. In addition, there is another specialised category open to those people who wish to stand for election to the Court of Common Council and who do not have ready access to the Nominators outlined (ie the Lord Mayor, Sheriff, Aldermen, Common Councilmen of the City of London or Liverymen) In such a case an applicant can be supported by any two electors registered in the City or by two persons eligible to sign an application for a passport. www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/freedom_of_city/applying.htm

Exactly... Were not the Celts the original inhabitants of these isles? Long live the Welsh etc... There is of course evidence that the Welsh people (and not all Celts, namely Irish, Scottish) were offsprings of Hercules, who came over and started a colony. I have to dig it out now that I mentioned it. Now it makes sense, why I feel @ home in Wales...

Now you are not going to tell me that the Celts set up their base at what was going to become Coventry centuries later? ;D ;D ;D ;D The name would suggest Saxon origins - whether that counts or not I wouldn't know. The city is based around three monastries (the remains of two still survive) and hit fame in the 17th Century as a prison for Royalists who were 'sent' there by the Roundheads. It became a centre for bicycle, and then automobile production in the late 19th and 20th centuries, becoming known for the blitz which decimated the town in November 1940. Latterly the city has hit fame again for being the home of Trinity Lodge, where visitors are interred entertained rather more comfortably than Cromwell's efforts 4 centuries earlier. And yes we do talk to our guests. ;D ;D ;D

Mother - Scottish, Father - Irish. Born in Somerset. Brought up in Coventry. Married and moved to Birmingham... So, I speak with an English accent but am decended from Celts. I'm not sure how to vote.
